Hey all of you

Ok. I need help. I can't decide what method to use to speedcube. As of now, I'm focusing on Roux but at the same time I'm thinking of changing to Fridrich.

Here's my history
I have been solving for about 4 months now. Formally i used the layer-by-layer method+petrus LL system(step 5,6,7). With that i made my personal best go up to 35 seconds:o. That was about a month ago.

After that i started to use the Petrus method(fully). That only lasted for a few weeks(the pb with that is 38 secs btw). I then changed to the Roux method and still using it until now. My pb with the Roux is 42 seconds.

The way i hold the cube and the way i do my finger tricks seems(in my opinion) more suitable to be used with the Fridrich method or the Petrus but i could change that. I'm quite lazy to learn a large amount of algs but if its worth the time and patience,i shall try to learn them.

I have checked out(meaning by take a look at it.Not learn it unless stated) most of the methods. Here is the list of it
Fridrich(learned F2L)
Petrus(learned)
Roux(learned)
Ortega(Partially learned)
Heise(learned but not really interested)
Waterman(too complicated so i choose to not learn it)
ZBL(I heard there is over 300 algs so not the thing i fancy)

Yeah. That is about it.When you post your replies, would you be kind enough to state which method you use. Any further information, kindly ask in you replies

Thanks :)

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking, is it a good idea for me to learn the PLL and OLL and solve the F2L with Petrus but use PLL and OLL for the LL?

Hey mazei,

I recommend you stay with Roux. I switched from Fridrich to Roux a while ago and never looked back. I never seem to get bored with it. But in all fairness you should choose the method that seems most interesting to you. Sub-15 times is possible with almost all of the methods you have posted there. Good luck.

I personally think Petrus F2L+COLL+EPLL is very powerful.I think that is what Johannes does and he is very fast.
I regret having switched from Petrus initially.

Johannes sometimes just does OCLL+PLL or even ZBLL I think 1/3 of the time... He told me he knows "50-100 individual ZB algs". And he doesn't count inverses and reflections.

Since I'm a OH cuber I'm biased against Roux, just so many M moves in the later steps.
If you know so many methods at a similar speed don't restrict yourself and just use whatever works. Though I use Fridrich myself I am a big fan of Petrus. Method-wise its all up to you.

I think Fridrich is the best...
Look at the top cubers (nakaji, harris, ect...) they use fridrich!
even though if u don't want to learn all olls, then u do 3 last layer (about 6 secs)
I pretty sure many fast cubers out there have averaged sub 15 with 3 look last layer
beside ZB, oll and pll r in the top lists of fastest ways to solve last layer
f2l is also pretty fast
It's easy to see the situation, then perform alg

I'd say stick with Petrus F2L, maybe add in a bit of fridrich F2L for last pair/2 pairs maybe, and go with Fridrich LL. I like that the most, cause it is possible to learn (not to many algs) and cause to me it seems fastest. 2 look is pretty good IMO.

hey dirk, if you dont mind, can you help me with coll algs. i'm having some difficulties remembering some of them.

thanks for your replies. i appreciate it

When I learn a new alg, I repeat it over and over and over and over until I don't have to think about it anymore. I just see the situation and do it without thinking in terms of R,U,F, etc. It basically becomes muscle memory. Only problem with that is I sometimes will forget the alg if I don't practice it much. Thats how I forgot about a third of my OLL algs (Still remember all the PLLs). If you really want to commit it to memory then pay close attention to the F2L pieces and memorize how they move around the cube as you do the alg. It seems to make it stand out more for me. Hope that helps.

Understanding commutators helps a lot in learning COLL.

I think Fridrich is the best...
Look at the top cubers (nakaji, harris, ect...) they use fridrich!
I think Fridrich is the worst...
Look at the cubers who average 20+ seconds, almost all use Fridrich!

I'd say stick with Petrus F2L ... and go with Fridrich LL.
It's worth point out that using "Fridrich LL" with Petrus F2L requires 50 algs less than with Fridrich F2L.

I'm interested to know where you found documentation on the Ortega method. I've found exactly 2 sites and one of them has the wrong algorithms and the other one is highly confusing to me.

I personally prefer fridrich because there is little intuitive parts

Little intuitive parts? Intuitive F2L is intuitive, and many people who start to learn the Fridrich Method choose intuitive F2L first. Also, the cross is intuitive, because there aren't algorithms. Obviously the Petrus and Roux methods are more intuitive, but Fridrich has more than a "little intuitive."
