I have a weird feeling about this competition. I feel like if I fail tension will build up inside me and I'll freak out. You see, I;m still a beginner, so I still use the white cross method. I know all the people at the competition are like, 10 second or 30 second solve. I'm a 3 or 4 minute solver. I know I can't back out but I feel nervous that forget a algorithm or something and get banned forever. I also found out I can't bring a manual. As soon as I found out that I thought oh s**t. I wanted out. I guess I'm gonna have to get some confidence up. Uggh.:fp

Why 2 threads about your first competition? If your nervous, then just practice solving on the timers in front of everybody before the official competitions. That helps relieve some nervousness.

One: You can back out.
Two: You'll be fine. Not everyone's sub 20. I'm sure there will be people over 1 minute. You probably won't be the only one at 3-4 mins either. Anyway, it's not just about competing, it's about having fun, and meeting some other cubers.

Well, obviously you can't use a manual while competing, but you can have it with you at the comp. Banned for forgetting an algorithm? Where'd this come from?

And you could always just do one or two solves, then not do any more. That's fine. Then next comp you'll have something to beat. Whatever you do, go to the comp, you don't have to compete, but I think doing 1 or 2 solves would be a good idea. Gives you some experience.

Hey, I feel like a noob because I posted 2 threads about my first competition and I'm commenting on my OWN thread. I just have no frikin idea how this works. And I obviously went over board on getting banned. But thanks for all of your help. I'm a noob, hopefully not forever though.

There's nothing wrong with posting in a thread you started...

Why can't you comment on your own thread? If you were worried, you can talk back. It's not nooby posting in your own thread. What don't you understand, I'll try to explain?

You know you CAN'T back out?

You think you might get nervous and forget an algorithm?

Banned forever?

You thought you could bring a manual?

People who post in their own thread's are noobs?

I'm a noob, hopefully not forever though.

Yes, please. :fp

No, actually they'll cut off your pinky.
you almost never fail to make me laugh.

To the author, what comp?
Dont worry about it, My first comp i was extremely worried, and excited all at the same time. At first i didnt know anyone, so i used my little brother to go up and start talking to people lol it worked. Anyway, i eventually started hanging out with sam (anythingtwisty) spencer, and cubninja (sorry name is just a blank).
We did a pyramid of cube solves, there were a good 20-30 cubes, plus a void cube there in like 1:30 yea cuz we are that epic xP. (and by that i mean we had a lot of people.)

while i was there i watched Dan fail at beating his record by less than 3 seconds on the 5x5. Him shaking his head and everyone was silent. then i yelled "its ok your still a beast xP"

the point of my thread is basically, that its fun and you walk away with good memories.

+1. Just have fun with it. I didn't do that good at my first comp (which wasn't very long ago), but I had fun. Just meet some other cubers there. Hang out. :D

I would go. There may not be another comp near you for a while. If you get a bad solve, you could always DNF it, as long as you don't do it twice.

Plenty of people enter with no intention to win. All experts started as beginners, so you won't get laughed at. No one will mind if you take 3 minutes. Personally, I went for 3 reasons: to get myself recorded into the World Cube Association; to see some amazing cubers in action and maybe learn something; to try to get on the list of oldest blindfold solvers.
