Yeah,

At least, with a name like that, I will get only specialists in this thread :D

The question is very simple : how do you predict the AUF you'll get during CLL recognition ?

I have discussed this with some friends, and we are all confused about this step and waste a lot of time for 1 move.

For some cases I just 'know' what the AUF will be since I've done them so many times. For others I actually learn it, and for some I just slow down towards the end of the alg.
Nevertheless I'm not very good @ AUF.

I'm by no means a pro at 2x2, but I average around 3.6 using CLL and I need to get better at AUF aswell. For about half the cases I've "learnt" how the U layer changes for that case just by doing it so many times. For some others I've had to figure it out myself (which isn't hard). Then when I get a certain case in a solve, I try to quickly remember what sticker to look at and if the color moves to the right, left, goes all the way around, or stays in place.

I'm sure better guys (Rowe, Edouard, Lucasz, Justin, etc) predict AUF every time. I'll work on it.

For some cases it's easy to just see the AUF during the end of the algorithm, and for some you just have to learn how the stickers on the U layer relate to the stickers on the D layer.

Just look for certain cues, for example, the R U R' U' R' F R F' case, the colour on FR will stay there, so you know how you have to AUF accordingly. For a sune, the colour at FL will become its opposite, so if you have red on front there, after the sune, orange will be on front.

EG's more tricky, you don't have the layer easily visible, but it can be done (I don't do it for most cases though), for example, the R U R' F' R U R' U' R U R' case, I know if the bar on the right matches the colour on RDF there's no AUF, and if it's opposite there's a U2, and if it matches the colour on FRD there's a U, and otherwise, there's a U'. It sounds complicated, but it's just a matter of finding visual cues in the cases. Another example is the y' R' U2 R' U2 R' U' R2 case, I know the the colour on top will end up on L after the rotation, and from what I can see, I can figure out AUF while I'm performing the alg.

Edit: You can also just pretend the colour on RDF is on the front, since it will be after the alg.

I just follow one piece throughout the algorithm, and before you've finished the algorithm you can work out where that piece is going to end up and see how to AUF appropriately. For example, in the R U R' U' R' F R F' case, after the R U R' U' the UBL piece will not move, so while finishing the algorithm just check how the UBL piece needs to be AUF'd
