Just wanted to post my experience with cube4you.com (aka cubeforyou.com) to give a little feedback. Not that it's much or will take long - but why not!

The site was alright. Be careful if working with links given to you for multiple person orders. cubeforyou.com and cube4you.com don't share the sessions so you'll have to manually edit links otherwise your cart won't fill up right

I got the impression it would take forever to ship, even if I ordered the fast delivery. Also, when I went to their forums to ask for my tracking number (UPS sent it anyway), I read a huge number of complaints about people not getting it for weeks and weeks even after ordering the '3-5 day shipping'. (Most were months old.) I was a little concerned at first..

I got an email when I placed the order that said "It should be shipped within 3 to 5 days, but my order landed on my doorstep 72 frikkin hours after submitting the order. Man, I was impressed! I may have just got in as they were gettin' ready to ship out I guess, but the very day I ordered it I got the email sayin' it'd been shipped, and my UPS tracking number.

Everything was packed fine. My c4u speed cube is awesome! However, since I've never touched anything but store bought before, couple questions.

It's not smooooooth as silk, though it is great. The only way I can think to describe... if i try to turn a face slow and steady it sorta skips along, even though everything is aligned fine. Its just sorta I dunno feels like it rubs. So, for those of you who ordered this. Did many of you find it perfect when you got it, or did you need to lube/adjust? (Or am I being silly and I'm just 'expecting miracles'. :P I realize I myself have much much improving to go and am the largest part of the problem.)

I can pop out a cubie and see the back part of it that hooks in the inside to make it do its thing is wet. Nice smooth oily lookin' lube of some sort. But it's not on the sides of the cubies where the rubbing at least feels like it's happening.

Or, a thought, I could maybe loosen each screw a quarter turn?

Anyway, thoughts appreciated but not necessary.. I am indeed capable of experimenting and figuring it out. I mainly wanted to give some positive feedback on the site.

It was a good experience. Will order from again, will hope to be that fast the next time. (with a larger order next time, :P. Just got a cube and spare parts for me, and another order of that for another member). One last bit of advice, I'd create you a login account before you order. I didn't and I read many others that didn't, but wish I had. I could track my order from the site if I had.

Cheers!

I was very impressed with the fast shipping in cube4you. My order arrived in Texas in less than 48 hours.

I have two cube4you cubes. The first, a green one, is very smooth. The other one, white, has the same turning symptoms as yours, but it seems to be getting better after lubing and a few weeks of breaking in.

Very yes, I am a fan of C4y as well.
They send extra screw/washers/springs with my past 3 orders, which made me happy.

You should join their forum if youre a fan, you can win points and discounts.

My Cube4You order via UPS also took less than two days to arrive from the time that I ordered it. I was very impressed. Although UPS shipping is fairly expensive, it seems worth it.

I did not buy my Cube4You cubes already assembled. I lubricated them myself with CRC. This made a big difference to the cube from its non-lubricated state. Perhaps you could wipe off the lubricant currently inside and lubricate the whole cube yourself to improve its performance.

You reckin' jig-a-loo would be as well as crc?

(I realize that's an opinion I'm askin' for there..)

C4U cubes LOVE Jig-a-Loo. They respond instantly to it, and they're a little weird without lube--someone described it as a "marshmallowy feeling" which I think is accurate. Don't empty the whole can in there, just a few squirts.

And don't loosen it, I think. These cubes function best at a fairly high tension. You might want to take it apart and make sure whoever assembled it put all the edge caps in correctly. If one is not flush, it will scrape along.

I have had experience with C4y cubes. 4 of my best speedcubes are c4y hybrids, and ive used 3 different colors of C4y cubes. (white, red, black)

Crc is good, fast, crisp. Jigaloo is just as good, but smooth, quieter, and still fast.

Its very difficult to quantify, but id say personal preference, thats the general opinion people give.

If jigaloo is all you have, youll be fine.

EDIT: Teller is 100% correct.
You can also exclude the edge caps, it feels different, but you might prefer that.
I know a cuber who is like, around 14 average (shamah taylor) who used a c4y cube without the edge caps, and jigaloo, and it was an amazing cube.

I've never tried Jig-a-Loo, so I'm in no position to make a comparison. However, CRC definatly works fairly well on C4U cubes and makes them fast and crisp. I'd also have to agree with Teller about using the cubes at high tension -- when loosened, mine locks up too much.

By edge caps do you mean the center caps covering the screws?

And, too late! Ok, time to help the new guy. Heh. I've gone and mistakenly loosed a couple of the screws that seemed tight to me and foolishly lost track of which ones I loosened. It does indeed lock up much more now.

Ive taken it appart to better try to determine which two I loosened. But, still having a hard time.

Is there a general concensus about.. say, if you pull the center peices how much clearance there should be between the core and the center caps or... would it be best to screw in all the way and then back out X number of turns or.. do I basically need to reassemble and play with it till it seems right?

Bah, I feel dumb jacking it up in my first few hours of having it.

I guess I mean I'm unsure how to ensure they are all the same tension..

Aight, I'll screw in to what looks about the same as the most screwed in one, put it together, and see!

Alright, much better. :)

But, curious.. what was meant by "put edge caps on right"? There's a wrong way?

Edges--not corners, not center pieces. If you look at your storebought cube you'll see that the edges are hollow; on a c4u cube they are sealed with a special fitted cap that covers the entire exposed area. Just make sure nothing is sticking up. They're probably fine, but they're easy to install crooked so it's just something to look for.

They're all hollow.. no caps. Guess that won't cause a rub problem then, heh.

Whoa...what kinda mutant c4u cube is this? Maybe it's a Type D instead...

Like this?

Edit: Ok I looked at pictures of DIY kits where they label different parts.. I see the caps, I look on mine, I see the caps. It's a separate hole than that one they cover.

So I think it's right.

Just play with it to find tension I like. I assume I probably need to break it in, too..

I ordered from them and they messed up my order. There was the wrong color type f, missing core from a type c and megaminx with a tile already broken off. on top of all of this shipping took two and a half weeks.

Awesome. I finally figured out an easy way to get all my screws to an equal tension again, and "fixed" my cube. :)

I used a dime and got each one to where I could barely squeeze the dime in the gap when pulling on the center piece for each one. They were way different!

And after doing that all the way around and putting it all back together, I figured I'd just pay real close attention (I learned my lesson!) and adjust each screw the same amount of turns to adjust to a tension to my liking. But hey, I like it just like this, so far anyway. I'll use for a while but it FINALLY feels good again, like when I got it.

I tried to fix what wasn't broke. Bad Phases.

I didn't feel like making a new thread, so I'm just gonna ask my question here.

How would one go about removing the edge caps?

I don't know, I read this earlier and thought I'd try with a needle to get in the tiny gap and pop one of mine off, but couldn't do it.

A teeny tiny suction cup maybe?

Dang, that sucks to hear. How long ago was it? Did you PM him and let him know?

I know exactly how to removed edge caps.
(intentional grammar.)

You take a pointed knife and wedge it near the part in which the cubie curves.
Then you sort of use the knife as a lever and push the edge cap out.
I've tried the other spots and they work, but not as well as the part near the part which keeps the cubie in the core.

You can push the edge tab out more, and from there, just pull it out by hand.
