Please read the entire thread.I'm confused. I'm still new, but couldn't you say DIY cubes are fakes/knockoffs of the original Rubik's Cube? Doesn't that mean if you buy a DIY cube or a C4Y cube or whatever it doesn't support Rubik's?
If that's true, then doesn't that mean that a lot of people on this forum have knockoff cubes? And then according to these guys it is morally wrong?
We're not concerned with knockoffs in general, I'm talking about patent infringing counterfeit products.
Fair enough, but all this talk about some knockoffs being okay, while others aren't. Again, I'm relatively new, I haven't looked into Rubik's Cubes for a long time, I've just been happily playing away with my real Rubik's until recently.
Now that I've read the entire thread, I realize you are concerning yourselves with V-Cubes. Which made me think of another point.
If some cubes are okay to counterfeit and others aren't, how are average consumers, even some more experienced ones supposed to know that? I mean how often do guys look up patent infringements on the products they buy. It seems odd to me that most knockoffs are legal except this series, and I didn't know about this at all... This certainly cannot be compared with cars where the law is pretty black and white, there is a blur. After reading this thread, it seems there are products that you guys aren't even sure if they are legal or not. That is NOT a good enough reason to boycott all fakes. Just because you guys THINK it might be illegal, or PRETTY SURE it is, you are asking people to buy a more expensive product? Perhaps it is an issue of morals, but I wouldn't follow that logic, and would probably go with the fake.
