How Much Practice is To Much?

I did around 150 solves yesterday and was wondering around how many solves a day do you guys do.

On two seperate occasions, I have done 413 solves and 667 solves in a day. On average I probably do around 200-300, but of course it just depends on how much free time I have...
I think that if I really dedicated a day to it I could definitely do a thousand.

However, if you are considering doing loads of solves you should really take time to warm up and cool down as you can get some serious injuries, like RSI and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I've heard that if you get serious RSI then you will be vulnerable to it forever. Being a cuber you're also more likely to be at the computer a lot and thus put yourself at a greater risk.

But if you want the short answer; no practice is too much, just as long as you practice properly.
:)

200-300 solves on average a day, Rowan? Wowzers. I don't think I've ever done that many in one day.

If you're doing so many that you're getting bored, you're doing too many. Also, make sure you have time for a social life and whatnot.

I once solved until the skin on my index finger chafed and began to bleed.

This was on a 7x7 during winter with exceptionally dry fingers. So, once you can feel pain, that means its time to stop.

OUCH!!!

Well I practice a lot myself, but I don't think I practice too much... Sometimes I look back at past averages for a particular day and I notice that I'd have done maybe 9-12 averages of 12 for the 3x3x3 tops (as well as some solves in between). I believe as long as your cube is not too tight, and you take frequent breaks, that you should be okay. I've heard of some people doing cube marathons, and averages of like 1000!:eek::eek:

I practice everywhere, and anywhere. I always toke my cube out on the go, so as long as you practice, and you don't get bored or tired of doing it, then I say that you can never ever practice too much.

Wow. I do 200-300 solves total for all puzzles in probably a month nowadays. Probably no more than 40 3x3x3 solves a month. No wonder why I'm so slow. That's probably also the reason why I end up breaking several PBs as official solves.

During the summers, I don't really have a life outside of cubing, so I can get in about 300 solves (not all 3x3 of course) every day. And I'm still not considered good.

it's all in your opinion I guess.. I don't like to go past 200 solves a day, but you may only want to go 75 or maybe even 1000.

Well, I wake up around 9 these days, and just cube til about 11 or 12 when I go and have breakfast, so that's a good 2 hours of solving. On a day where I don't go out I'll probably just continue solving. And if I'm unlucky enough to not go out that evening either I'll definitely continue solving...
And I never get bored, I'm too competitive!
I somehow manage to have a social life and a girlfriend throughout all of this so I don't think I'm doing 'too much' practice yet :P

You're always considered good by someone slower than you.

Are we talking about "practice, practice"? Or "I'm taking an average, practice"?
I always like how BadMephisto words his definition of practice.
-Actively trying to get better at f2l (OLL, PLL, CxLL, etc.)

But, I assume we're talking about the latter, so I think that you should just practice until you get bored, get pains, friends want to hang out, mom wants you to help, etc.

How much is too much? That's for each individual to decide for themselves.

I can tell you how much is too little though: I don't practice as such - I just do the weekly competition. Then again, I'm not at all fast! Please disregard my reply :D
I just do the weekly competitions as well and I would consider myself "pretty fast". (I have a couple of years of experience though)

But to get near world-class you need to practice for roughly 1.5 hours for about a year (will largely depend on person, interests and current level)

I practice usually every weekend, this summer I have not practiced as much but whenver I have freetime to cube, i do it. I do several avgs of 20 and 10 for 3x3 but you know you are practicing too much if you either get bored of it or your times begin to increase due to cubing fatigue!
