Hello all! This is my first post here, and figured Id start with a good one :D

I built a fully functional solvable magnetic 3x3x3 cube, using 27 acrylic cubes and over 100 neodymium magnets. It took me about 4 days to construct it, and I am ecstatic with the results.

And I have decided to sell it. I am very proud of it, and would gladly sell it to someone truly interested in cubes.

It is the exact same size as a traditional 3x3x3, and is able to be solved just like normal, albeit with a little firmer grip to compensate for the strength of the magnets.

Ive talked with others, and $200 seems like a good place to start, considering the amount of time and the cost of materials. If $200 is a little steep, im willing to hear some other offers.

As per the advice I gleaned from the members of this form, I have added an ebay listing for the cube. Starting bid is $0.01! :D

That is a stunning piece of work, but unfortunately I cannot afford such a luxury item. I've seen many variations of this concept over my years as a cuber, dice cubies are clever and challenging, but clear cubies are just plain sexy!

Grats for a job well done, I hope you get a worthy price :)

I actually did have dice ordered, but came across a link for clear cubies, and cancelled the dice. Youre right, the clear look awesome. I like that many of my friends will pick it up assuming its a regular cube, and are surprised when they feel it. I dont think this would happen with dice! :D

Do you think the price is too steep? Any input is heavily valued.

Great job... I've been waiting to see someone actually do this.

As far as the price, if you don't mind me asking, how much were the supplies and how many hours did you spend? $200 sounds reasonable. If you can somehow order supplies in bulk and get quick at making them, you could drop the price and maybe get several buyers. You could try eBay if you can't find anyone here.

Best of luck.

Wow just like stated above this is ART. That's amazing I'd love to have one, however i just purchased a v cube 7. I think you could actually be on to something great with this, it looks like an amazing little project if you could get into making more of them. Fantastic. Great Job.

All together it cost me approximately $80 for all the materials, including shipping. As for the man hours, it took about 6 hours to drill all the holes, including making a fixture to hold the cubies in place, 3 hours to glue the magnets in, and about 20 min for the stickers. So about 9 hours? It was extremely tricky to get all the polarities on the magnets right, and ill admit i messed up once, but luckily had a few extra cubies and magnets.

I really do appreciate all the praise too, i am really proud of this cube, as I made it with my own hands. :D

I did try ebay, and the auction just ended with 0 bids. :/ Apparently no one on ebay was interested. Haha.

I would really like to sell it, Id use the money to buy all the materials for a new one, and pocket the profit.

You could start the auction at $0.01 and see what it goes up to (in general, the value of something is what someone is willing to pay for it). You can end the auction like 5 hours until the end if it isn't up to the min price you'd sell it for. If you post it (the auction link) on the forum, I'm sure you'd get some bids, but I'm not sure if it would go up to $200 (if you had a starting bid of $200 on eBay, that is probably why you had 0 bids).

I did have the starting bid at $200. It was my first time using ebay, so I wasnt really sure. Your explanation makes a lot more sense. I will repost, and see where is gets me. Thank you.

But that isnt to say I wont take any offers on here! :D

You're one of those unethical bastards? Plus it's stupid cause the bids often rise significantly in the very last minute(s). The correct way if you really don't trust the market is to enter a reserve price.

That is actually the guide that I worked from. I forgot to make it clear that it wasnt my idea, and that I was working from instructions (sort of).

I edited my ebay post to include a reserve price! :D

From the ebay auction: "If interested at all, please call or text (preferably text) me at; REDACTED. I am willing to negotiate on the price to some degree."

I guess that means you're going to betray the honest bidders and stop the auction to sell it to the ******* who contacts you privately?

And why is your craigslist offer still active in addition to the ebay auction? Do you have two of these cubes or do you intend to cheat honest people?

Im really sorry. This is the first time Ive ever attempted to sell anything on the internet. To be honest, I wrote the ad in Word and copy and pasted it to the various sites. Thats why some of the content doesnt fit the context. Ill change it immediately. I want it to be made clear; I am not attempting to scam anyone in anyway, I truly just would like to see if anyone would be willing to buy a pretty unique cube to add to their collection.

EDIT: Removed the Craigslist posting, along with editing the description to remove the issues. I hope all is well now, but please, do not hold back if you feel you have constructive criticism on the method of advertising/selling/posting, or even if you simply just want to learn more about its construction process.

Thank you.
I do feel you are making it out that I am trying to scam people. It isnt that at all, I am simply new at selling things on the internet, sorry if I didnt do it correctly on my first try.

Exactly. Im only 18. And I dont think its right that you accuse me of trying to scam people. You didnt stop think that maybe I was just unfamiliar with the workings of selling items on the internet.

If there are no offers on ebay i would not be discouraged, it is after all a super RARE item, i personally would never think to type in "magnetic Rubik's cube" into eBay, so maybe offers here are the way to go.

i agree, that is something special! looks awesome too. nice job

Well it is nice, but not unique I have several such cubes in my collection

The oldest type is the Magneto cube (from the 80's)

http://www.speedcubing.com/ton/collection/Other%20Puzzles/pages/Magneto.htm

Other cube with the same concept is from Tseng Da (Daniel) 2002 it is called the Dynacube, the Dynacube is even more brilaint as it has 18 Colours , as it has also colors inside, which make it a even more challenging puzzle

btw 200$ is a reasonable prize, but I prefer my Dynacube ;)
