Competition Reports

WEEKEND COMP ROUNDUP (OCT 23-26)
2x2 SWRs in consecutive weeks, this time jumping from 161st to 1st...

Alex Mirau (40+) joins my watchlist with four PRs including an equalled world record at Wuppertaler Würfel Wochenende 2 2026: just a week after fellow German Sébastien Auroux took down the 12 year old 2x2 average SWR, Alex's 2x2 PR best 1.42 takes him from 161st to equal the senior world record set by Jia-Hong Lu in 2023; and 3x3 average 17.18 followed by 16.81 takes him from 213th to 147th, and PR best 13.70 from 158th to 140th. I wonder if any world record has jumped more than 160 places from the previous ranking?

Also in Wuppertaler, Ulrich Spies (60+ MM, PM WR2s) made a Megaminx PR average 1:54.15, remaining ranked 2nd.

Still in Wuppertaler, Sébastien Auroux (40+ 2x2 WR) made a senior PR and four senior doubles, continuing a massive run of senior PRs as he brings his senior record into line with his general standard: 5x5 best 1:17.27 takes him from 15th to 5th ahead of Ming Zheng, and average 1:27.62 from 15th to 8th, just 0.01s ahead of Piotr Kózka; Clock average 7.79 (15th to 14th) and best 7.13 (30th to 19th); 3OH average 27.10 (36th to 31st) and best 23.07 (64th to 44th); 3x3 best 10.94 (46th to 34th); and Megaminx average 1:35.90 (enters at 22nd) and best 1:31.08 (enters at 30th).

Finally from Wuppertaler, Christian Sachgau (60+ four WR2s) made a PR and a 60+ PR: Clock PR average 15.76 takes him from 16th to 12th, and 60+ PR best 14.43 from 18th to 15th.

Kerry Go (60+ 4x4 WR) made a double PR and a 60+ PR at Rockland Rookies 2026: 7x7 mean 7:18.94 and best 6:55.23 both remain ranked 2nd; and 5x5 60+ PR average 2:35.85 remains ranked 4th.

István Kocza (50+ 3BLD WR2s) made a PR and two 50+ PRs at Hungarian Open 2026: 5BLD 50+ PR best 12:06 remains ranked 4th; and Pyraminx PR average 13.62 (152nd to 111st) and 50+ PR best 11.44 (196th to 175th). He earned two podiums: first in MBLD with 16/16 in 56:38, and second in 5BLD.

Olivier Wirz (60+ 2x2 WR) made two PRs at Dreiländereck-Open 2026: Clock best 7.71 remains ranked 5th; and Square-1 average 42.49 takes him from 7th to 5th.

Claude Arsicaud (70 3x3 WR5s) made a 3x3 70+ PR average 38.62 at Charente Open 2026, remaining ranked 5th.

Dennis Rosero (40+ two WR2s) made two PRs at Cuboween Boyacá 2026: 3OH best 16.21 takes him from 40th to 6th ahead of Thierry Boisivon; and 5x5 PR best 1:29.82 remains ranked 26th. He also earned a second place podium in Square-1 with average 17.96.

Chris Wright (50+ MM WR2s) made a PR and a 50+ PR at Plymouth Autumn 2026: Square-1 PR average 29.47 takes him from 13th to 6th ahead of Akatsuki Kitamura, and 50+ PR best 24.16 from 15th to 10th ahead of Fumiki Koseki.

Also in Plymouth, Pete Lee (40+ MM WR3s) made two PRs: 2x2 best 3.86 (271st to 156th); Clock best 12.55 (206th to 182nd).

Chan Tak Chuen (40+ 4x4 WR3) made a 5x5 PR best 1:21.13 at Taiwan 20th Anniversary 2026, taking him from 21st to 12th.

Ge Shi (40+ fastest senior to complete profile) earned a second place podium at TX MBLD Champs Austin 2026 in MBLD with 11/11 in 41:44.

The following top ten results from outside my watchlist have come up over the last week, which I found via Phil Lewis' Recent Senior Records page:
: Klaus Diller (70+) at Wuppertaler Würfel Wochenende 2 2026 – Megaminx best 4.57.86 (remains 2nd)
- Pyraminx average 16.83 (remains 3rd)
: Heleen van der Ree (50+) at Wuppertaler Würfel Wochenende 2 2026 – 2x2 best 2.51 (11th to 7th)

This week I also followed Lisa Kucala, Peter Hugosson-Miller, Daniel Houghton, AJ Nicholls, Thor Muto Asmund, Maria Oey, Ton Dennenbroek, and Bobby Mapp, who competed without making any new PRs.

In 40+ Kinch rankings, Sébastien Auroux continues to rise through the ranks, up again this week from 11th to 4th ahead of Jens Grieme. Out of the top four Kinch ranked seniors, all but #1 Choi Goho entered the senior rankings in the last two years.

In 50+, Nicole Hauser is up from 24th to 23rd ahead of Javier Tirado Ortiz, thanks to PRs in 6x6, Pyraminx and Square-1 this week.

In 60+, Olivier Wirz is up from 18th to 17th ahead of Doyle Cline, having PRed in Square-1 this week. Several NxN PRs have taken Argentinian Javier Agustín Rossi into the top page at 22nd ahead of José Adrian Jaquez Salazar from Mexico, pushing Lennart Aspelin off the top page.

Congratulations to all of these high achievers!

Please let me know if you know of anyone moving to a new age group who might be a candidate to join the top ranks.

Many thanks to Michael George for creating and maintaining the Senior Cubing Rankings website, and to Phil Lewis for creating the Senior Cubing Tracker site, which can be found via the Useful Links section of the SCR site.
