It was to become faster than my friend who at the time averaged around a minute, shortly after I got faster than him he quit cubing tho so now I don't really have much of a "goal". I just cube because I love it and I'm good at it.

I have barely any memories from the first year or so that I cubed. But I believe this was probably the same goal I had; to be better than my classmate and friend, which I only achieved after he quit at sub-20 or so. To this day, I am still infinitely grateful for how far we ended up pushing each other during that first year. Without Imran, who knows whether I would have continued cubing, or simply quit after a lonely first comp?
my dad was into speed cubing when i was a kid
i was kinda interested so i learned, never did times solves, then forgot.
one day my friend brought a cube to school and i remembered that i used to be able to solve one.
from there i just kept learning stuff and learning about the community.
i really started dedicating time to it when i learned how to solve NxN, and then spend a summer grinding.
so i guess i just wanted to be better then my dad
