The fact that clock is not "spectator friendly" was one of the many "reasons" why clock is being removed.
I think that no event is spectator friendly.
Here is why.
For this, I am going to assume that ALL spectators are non-cubers. Just friends, family etc of those competing.
I am happy to debate on this, but this is my opinion and I am probably biased to events I like.
(in order of least to most spectator friendly).
FMC - No one knows what's going on, who would watch people do what, to them, looks like some test ?
Multi BLD - Not only is it painstakingly long, spectators cannot really react when... like anything happens.
Big BLD - Not long in comparison to Multi BLD, but long overall. Spectators can still not react to anything.
7x7 - Boring. No hate to 7x7ers. But literally the only cool thing about this is that most of these spectators will have rarely seen a 7x7, and think it is the hardest thing in the world.
6x6 - The above, but is approaching sub 1 minute, so not really any issues about length
5x5 - The above also, but as world class is almost sub 30, it is what I think is the perfect time length - not to long or too short.
2x2 - WAY Too short. I guess its cool that a 2x2 ao5 totals to less then 1 world class 3x3 solve. There is a bit more drama though, as it is more likely that 0.01 seconds can decide the champion.
Squan - Times are similar to 3x3, but my version of a spectator has never heard of a squan and their mind cant comprehend how it turns.
Pyraminx/Skewb - Short, but at least not as bad as 2x2. Spectators may find skewb turns confusing.
4x4 - A good length imo, but like the other bigger nxns, overly exaggerated on its difficulty.
Clock - Short, but I think it is easy to understand what is going on, they are pointing the hands to 12. Like a clock.
3BLD - Understandable, but can't really react to anything.
OH - Easily understandable, and a nice length.
3x3 - The only one I would expect people to know. I do think it is a bit short though, but its the OG so who cares.
