i haven't seen a thread like this and i thought it would be kinda fun to hear about people breaking their PB's in unusual circumstances. like for instance:

i had just broken my best and very first cube and i had told my grandma. she suprised me the next week when she told me to go to walgreens with her. she bought me a cube at walgreens and as soon as i opened it i decided to time myself. I, of course, figured that since it was a unlubed, not broken in storebought, I was going to get bad times. the first time i solve the cube. i break my PB by 20 seconds. i couldn't stop laughing.

well i didnt really break it, but i was trying to teachmy friend, and ended up getting a full ll skip. if i solved normally, wouldve been a good time:(

edit: what i mean is, i was showing him with slow turns

Yesterday I realized that I can cube faster if I had a glass of wine or two (or beer). The reason is, that I am much more relaxed.. today I try to beat my personal best after a glass of wine *g*.

I didn't time but my friend scrambles for me

and I got 2 moves full double extended cross , 2 easy f2l pairs and a ll skip

my friend is like HOLY*!@##$

I was playing World of Warcraft, and I was on an 11minute flight path so I decided to get my stackmatt timer and do an average. My first solve was 29.xx (my new personal best!) and the seconded solve was 26.65 (my new new personal best!). The rest of my average was normal.

WoW + Cube = Breaking your PB twice in a row.

Ok, so I am a corners-first user. I have gotten to be pretty good with the method i use. I just finished closing a webpage where somebody had said it's not possible to get sub-15 using corners first. I did a solve immediately afterwards and got my 13.43 second record. Since then I have beat my record again. I now am getting close to having an average under 15 seconds (15.94).

Me and my friends were having a 3x3x3 race, and they were n00bs, so I started going easy on them as I had promised, but then, I got a PLL skip, so my friends didn't think I was going easy on them at all and shouted at me:(.

while day dreaming and not turning fast. fine i didn't break my 4x4 record but it was close...49.11s....if i had concentrated i would have broken my stupid 48.66 record..
and i didn't even look at the time...only after i stopped the timer i saw the time i was sooooo sad.

I was waiting around at school. I just did a really fast F2L and I was about to go sub-20 for the first time. I just had to do PLL when my old english teacher came. He grabbed my cube and said "SLOW DOWN!!!" He let go, and them I finished. I still beat my PB by .3 seconds.

I just got home right now after drinking an Iced capp, picked up my 3x3x3 (Type C-- unlubed and it's pretty bad to turn) and got a 21.66 first solve on cubemania.org.

Obviously I was interested in timing the rest of the average, and ended up getting two more sub-26s (23.86 and 25.96); this is when I started getting nervous.

I got a 32.29 just afterwards, and my average standing from the 4 was about 25.23 (I think), so I did the last solve, and the F2L was horridly hard, but the OLL was 3-look (no edges oriented, but Anti-Sune, and that's sub-1 for me!!!); PLL was CCW U-perm -- 23.13!!!!

The PB is shown in my sig right now (24.30) -- but I have been trying to break sub-25 for about two months now, and right now of all times is the most random ever... WTF.

I got a meffert's clone 4x4 last week so I've been playing with it a lot lately. I have both Rubik's & Eastshen 4x4s but I was unable to get a time below 1:35. Since playing with my new 4x4 in the past week, I beat my PB the day I received it by 10 seconds. Then yesterday I got 1:12.92 and I got a few other solves under 1:20. It was awesome. Then immediately afterward I beat my 5x5 PB by 10 seconds and 7x7 by 30 seconds. Yesterday was AWESOME!! Usually when I beat my 3x3 PB, I have a feeling that I know I'm going to. About a month ago I got my first and only sub-14 solve but since then I have lowered my avg to sub20 for the most part.
