[Help Thread] How do you guys recommend learning full F2L?

I’ve been speedcubing for almost 30 years. In that time I’ve seen that whether people start by learning intuitive F2L or just learning algorithms right away, over time everyone ends up at the same spot. Eventually you will have an intuitive grasp of what most algorithms are doing, but will use pre-memorized algs for certain special cases.

TL;DR use your personal strengths. If you’re good at memorizing, start by just learning algs for common cases. If you like understanding what you’re doing, watch some videos on intuitive F2L.

You will eventually have a mix of intuitive understanding and a base of useful algs, so don’t just do one method alone. Learn both ways, but lean heaviest on your personal strengths in the beginning.

I’m sure others will have great advice as well, but that has been my observation over time.

Ty! I think that intuitive F2L is best, just cause you understand and can mod the algs over time for specific cases.

i suggest this flow chart
learn intuitive F2L (its not something you can really learn by algs but it will help your understanding of the cube)
get used to it (like solving a case without even thinking)
learn advanced F2L (aka the 42 F2L cases)
master those
then learn how to insert into the back slots
then get used to those
and then you can focus on lookahead

yeah im using intuitive f2l ringth now and for some cases i don't even gotta think «oh ok the sticker is up so i turn this one...» i developed some "algs" which i could do eyes closed for example. I recommemd you to learn intuitive f2l, then learn the hardest intuitive f2l cases, then full f2l. i looked at the f2l algs and noticed that some are thr same moves that you would do for intuitive f2l

I've already started Lookahead as I need the habbit.

…
so you are trying to lookahead WITHOUT learning advanced F2L???

you can do whatever you want but if i were you i would start with leaening advanced F2L first before focusing on lookahead because lookahead is useless if you can’t recognize the pair. Also, not learning advanced F2L first will eventually lead to more inefficient solutions and bad habits (bad habits are a huge no-no)

are you saying that doing lookahead whilst doing intuitive f2l is bad ?

that’s not the point, it’s just much better in the long run to learn advanced F2L first because while you are training lookahead you can get used to advanced F2L at the same time which will lead to faster improvement

intuitive F2L is just a stepping stone for advanced F2L, kinda like training wheels on a bike. You shouldn’t use intuitive F2L for a long time.

so when i finish ful pll, i hop directly onto full f2l. just a lil question, learning full f2l bringed you to what to wht time (ex: from sub 20 to sub 15) (my bad if the formulation wasn't correct, i speak french)
do you already know intuitive F2L?
i think it brought me to like sub-15 or something
make sure to learn the back slot cases too
you speak french????

there is a lot of questions marks. anyway, i know intuitive f2l and did intuitive f2l bringed you to sub 15 or it was full f2l ? and yeah i speak french ! i am the only place in north amerca where we stil talk french (quebec)

It's hard for me to do lookahead since I've not used it and started bad habits, if I don't learn it now, it will be harder to later. 🤷‍♂️
