Hello all, I'm verbe (they/them).
I learned how to solve a Rubik's cube last year, and got obsessed with it for around a month or two, upgrading to a MoYu RS3M pretty much instantly. But around July time I dropped the hobby pretty suddenly, and only in the last week have I picked it back up, and fiercely.
Before last week, my PB single was 40.88 and my PB ao12 was 50.37, and after derusting and practicing to get back up to speed these last few days, my new PB single is 37.12 and my PB ao12 is 48.56!
I'm still using the beginner's method as taught by J Perm in his 10 minute video, and I feel like I definitely still have some foundations to properly lay with that method, but I'm eager to get to the point where I feel ready to start learning F2L.
Just today I also ordered my 2nd ever a puzzle, a 2x2 MoYu RS2M (plus a QiYi timer, and a small mat), which I'm pretty excited about arriving!
My initial goals with speedcubing is to set a sub-20 single PB, and also to solve a 3x3 blindfolded.

Hoping to get fast enough in the somewhat near future to justify to myself the cost of going to comps, but other than that I'm looking forward to interacting with the community and continuing to improve! :)

welcome to the forums! We have many helpful cubers who could help you reach that sub-20 goal. Have you watched JPerm’s tutorial on how to get faster with the beginners method? I highly suggest you watch it if you haven’t already.

I watched it in the last few days! A few of the tricks were already still in my muscle memory from last year, and I've just about learned all the other ones in that video now. Although by far my biggest time loss comes from the fact that I still have to very consciously think about where each face is (and more often than not, physically have to look to find it), when I'm doing the step of inserting the middle-layer edges, and also aligning the top-layer edges. Sometimes I get lucky and am able to do it and/or most of the pieces align themselves, but I still get some pretty horrendous moments where nothing is moving just because I'm struggling to locate pieces and the place they need to go.
Obviously just more practice will build that intuition up over time, but is there anything more active I can do to improve at my spatial awareness of the cube and its colours?

Is anyone going to help w/this? cause if I do, we all know that someone is going to need to buy a new cube.

If there's any algorithms you are struggling with, don't bother scrambling, just repeat the move set over and over.

pretty much just solving the cube again and again will guarantee spatial awareness

Welcome to the community :)
I often find (with anything) if you take a little break you come back better than ever!

Look forward to meeting you at a competition in the future!
