these cubes have pretty different traits but are equally good,i get the same times on them.

the hong feels like a more stable and less poppy mgc(it still pops tho,it also corner twists),and the gan just feels has that gan feel and it almost never pops or corner twists on a reasonable setting.in general you can turn faster without being more careful but its slightly less stable than the hong(i have experienced the uw layer turning during L4C which never happens on the hong).the gan has slightly too fast inner layers and the hong has slightly too slow ones.

i myself main the hong mainly because its smaller and therefore easier to use but if you ave big hands i think you might like the gan more.

also for me i wouldnt main the gan even if it was as small as the hong for reasons i cant explain.i guess the mgc feel just feels more right on a 5x5.

tldr if you have big hands and lots of money then buy the gan and if you dont have one of these things then buy the hong.

i might be wrong tho this is my personal opinion as of right now so watch more reviews before you buy and if you buy the wrong cube because of this post then pls dont sue me bro i didnt do this on purpose

also moyu is teasing a new aochuang and yj is teasing a new mgc5(and i think they both have uv and ball cores)so you might wanna wait for quite a while if youre on a budget

I'll provide my two cents into this as well.

I currently main the Hong 5x5. I've tried a few GAN 5x5s, and from what I can tell, they are pretty good.

The GAN to me seems over-hyped and overrated. The cube is fine on its own for sure, but given the size and price point, I feel it's more worth it to buy a Hong.

There is one thing that comes with buying the Hong. The inner layers do take some work to break in, and are kind of slow compared to the ones on the GAN. This can be solved by dorito modding the inner layers of the cube to allow much less friction compared to just using lube, allowing them to be faster and therefore letting the cube be very fast.

While the Hong can suffer from pops, if you do the mod and are using fairly tight tensions, the cube rarely pops at all. And the smaller size certainly helps with keeping the cube controlled, along with the superb UV coating. I feel that the UV on the Hong is far better than GAN UV.

Overall, really just go with what you feel you want to deal with. The Hong is amazing after doing a little bit of work to it, but if you don't want to do the work you can skip that step, spend some extra money, and get the GAN. My honest opinion still stands: a modded Hong 5x5 is ahead of the GAN by a long ways.

Take nail clippers (my recommendation since they are somewhat easy to find and use) or a hobby knife, take out a wing piece, take the piece apart, cut out the side of the piece that has no magnets and faces the inside of the cube, be careful not to cut the things that hold the piece together, put together the piece back together again, insert it back in, repeat for all 24 pieces, and you’re done.

If this was confusing, @NebraskanSpeedsolver himself has a video explaining him do the dorito mod

Oh wow thanks for the plug lol!

Yeah you have to be really careful, I used very small wire cutters to do the job.
