Hey everyone! So I got back into cubing again after several times going in and out of the hobby, and I really wanna meet other people who love to cube on Guam. I've definitely changed a lot since I started the account (I made this when I started middle school and now I'm going to graduate high school in less than a year), but I'd like to see who else is interested in this. I've been practicing a lot recently but I haven't really had anybody to talk about this with.

It's still my dream to organize an official competition here one day, but now, I just hope I can meet anybody else who loves to cube.

Ty in advance! :D

Have you ever tried looking for any venues? It only takes 1 organizer to start a community!
The main venue I am looking at is my school's gym. The admin are usually the type to support these types of activities, plus it's a pretty large space. It fulfills pretty much all the requirements needed for a comp. However, the community on the island is very disconnected so I wanna figure out demand first, gather maybe a few meetups, then start brainstorming ideas for a competition. I at least know I'm not alone in the idea though, as I have a friend interested in organizing with me.

Maybe you could give it a shot! I don’t know if there are any delegates in Guam, but if you can fly one in that would be willing to do it, you could potentially start something.

Side note, even hawaii is pretty far away from guam so either oceanic or southeastern asian delegates would be fine, but you'll have to contact them until you get an answer

quick note, hawaii doesn't have any delegates. When it has comps, it's usually a west coast usa delegate who flys in to help delegate comp. From looking on a map though, looks like Guam is relatively close to Philippines so might be a good shot to start there and ask.

Sorry for the radio silence, but I have some good news!

I talked to one of my school principals and he said he supports having a competition at the school. I will be presenting the idea a competition soon as an academic event and if I secure the gym as a venue, I'll finally be able to contact delegates. Aiming for January 2025.

That's great news! Hope you can form a cubing community in Guam and start organising more comps!

Update: About a week ago, I was able to attend a competition in the Philippines and now I am the first person from Guam to compete officially. My WCA ID is up and I now have experience as a competitor, judge, and scrambler. I fully believe that a competition is viable with limited resources, however I'd like to conduct under official rules without a delegate for a "pilot" competition through cubingcontests.com

We'll have to see how we can gather the needed timers and supplies as a result.
