I have a Fundraiser idea!

Is 3x3 the only event that can be done? Or can side events like 2x2, Skewb, and Clock also possible? Sometimes, I’m just not motivated to do 100 3x3 solves, and would rather do 100 clock or 2x2 solves every day on cam just because. This might provide some difference between solves, and some different people who wouldn’t be willing to do this many solves on a 3x3

Make a discord bot and allow people to contribute their solves and hope they’re recorded and not lying about the amount.
If we choose to do this, I would be glad to develop the bot. I've made multiple discord bots before, including one very similar to this. People would just have to do /didSolves count:123 for it to be added to the total, with could feature a leaderboard and an easy way to see the total amount of solves done (and money donated!). However, not all people have discord, but we do have enough time for most people who want to participate in this to get it and for us to set up a server.

Making sure that people aren't lying about the amount is hard, we might just have to force people to stream on youtube or twitch and have people verify they did the right amount of solves before letting the solves be added to the total.

I think it would just be easier to just disallow amounts over 1,000. It would 1) make it so people don’t input a billion solves and 2) people aren’t doing over 1,000 solves in session.

Maybe also make it so you can only input an amount once a day or something… That’s 2 ways to make it nearly impossible to grief.

Only 3x3 solves. I want to make this as marketable to non-cubing audiences as much as possible so the most amount of money can be donated, and 3x3 is just more marketable.

You can still do other events if you want for the cause, it just wouldn’t be counted towards the total of 1,000,000 solves

That’s a great idea! My biggest questions involve money; how in the world are we going to raise around 10,000 dollars in a year without some serious firepower. Most cubers are poor, and not rich. There has to be some way to raise money that’s substantial and not like 32 bucks
My idea is to just heavily promote it through YouTube. Hopefully, I can get a bunch of people on board before December so I have serious firepower to promote this cause

So here’s my idea. It’ll go through the entire year of 2025. Basically, 1,000,000 cumulative solves in a year. To keep it consistent, all solves must be recorded or live streamed for them to count towards the total.

How is it a fundraiser?
Basically, we’d use this big goal to draw attention to our cause of trying to donate (hopefully) $10,000 by the end of the year (which is 1,000,000 cents btw) to St. Jude’s children Hospital

This is all still all just an idea in my head atm, if anyone wants to help me, it’d be appreciated.

Things that would be needed to be successful:
-Some way of keeping track of how many solves have been in total
-Leaderboard of who has done the most solves (to create competition and make people to do the most amount of solves)
-People to actually do this challenge and help me do a cumulative 1,000,000 solves

If anyone is interested in this, cool! We have 5 and a bit months to plan this out until we start, so if you have ideas and want to help, please do! As previously said, this has just been an idea in my head up until this point and I haven’t done anything yet to really try to make this possible.

I don't have a camera but when I do I would be willing to join

would 3bld be fine since it's technically 3x3 (and I do way more 3bld than I do 3x3)

I’m so glad I made this thread because I legit don’t know wth I’m doing 💀💀💀💀

This is our #1 thing we need to figure out. How is the money going to get donated. I’ll update this comment (or make a new one depending how long it takes me) if I figure it out

Took me 2 seconds! You can do it directly through st jude’s!

Of course you don't know what you're doing. You didn't spend a minute thinking about how this would actually be done, and flying by the seat of your pants in terms of handling lots of money is never a good idea.

Can I DM you the times or something? I don’t want to do yt.

So I have a bunch I can add to this. $10,000 in a year is really doable. Did a fundraiser a while back and got ~$600 in 24 hours. I'm a bit busy atm so feel free to dm me and we can chat more.

As far as making video of all 1,000,000 solves - I would recommend against that. A better idea would to have like monthly highlight videos with donation reactions/ pb reactions/ other funny moments. It would be much easier to just take clips of streams and create a compilation of said clips + would save a lot on memory. Otherwise you'd need to have a few terabytes of memory on hand and you'd have to do a ton of scrubbing. The length of the video, if you were just to run streams back to back, would be insane. I've streamed between 300-500 hours and I don't think I'd crack more than 50,000 solves across all events and we're talking 1,000,000 solves. To keep track of solves exporting data from cstimer/cubedesk/other programs would be pretty easy. If you do it right, since there are timestamps on solves (could be wrong here) you could actually sort but date/time and see exactly which solves break x/y/z barrior. I'll respond later when I have more time.

For the recorded solves part, I wasn’t going to make a single video with all the solves. I was thinking about having people do solves, livestream/upload the video to YouTube, and have a certain hashtag. I’m just trying to find a way to make sure there’s not a crap ton of faked times without having to spend hours a day filtering through videos and trying to count how many solves people do.

I would love to be part of this, so please message me when this would start. I also have a bit of experience with donations and streaming. Usually you can get in touch with the place you want to donate to, and is just a good idea to make sure they are onboard with it.

This would go through the entire year of 2025, starting on 1/1/2025 and ending on 12/31/2025. (Probably, correct me if I’m wrong.)
