What percent of speedcubers make decent money from speedcubing?
From what I've heard, Max Park makes somewhere in the realm of 2 million a year has a net worth of 2 million, but unless you're world-class and very specialized, I doubt you would make very much money on cubing alone. Probably less than 1%.

Wait where did you here he makes 2 million a year? That’s a lot a money.

Max park can not be making 2 million a year, playing with plastic can not make you a multimillionare.

Not sure where you got this number from, but it seems pretty outlandish to me. I don’t know Max or have any connections with him, but I just don’t see where that type of money would be coming from.

Actually I realize not 2 million a year, but he has a net worth of 2 million plus. I can't quite remember where I saw it, but I know for a fact that his net worth is 2.4 million.

Net worth of 2m and yearly income of 2m are so vastly different. Even the 150k/yr you claim seems on the high end, but I suppose it’s possible for the #1 cuber in the world right now. I honestly don’t expect that he’s making much more than a decent living, but I may be missing some potential income opportunities for Cubers.

Either way 1% is way too high. Out of 225,000+ people who have competed in competitions, I’d be shocked to learn there are more than a dozen people making a decent living solely off cubing skill. I’m not particularly familiar with the economics of cubers though, so I could be wrong.

This is a really interesting question.
First off, sponsorship definitely helps towards decent money
2nd, if you win a big competition, worlds, US nats, Euros, etc you’ll surely get a big bonus. Unfortunately, prize money is often so little it’s hardly worth counting.
3rd, if you’re a top cuber and do YouTube, you’ll surely get some decent monetisation
