I can solve a 4x4 in 2min and a megaminx in 6min

Can you guys share with me good tips for 4x4 and mega and also the best videos you guys know of those puzzles?

For 4x4 my center pairing is pretty basic, I do it with no specific order and the I pair the 4 white cross edges like reduction then proceed to YAU-like 4-3-3 pairing (i think that's the name) then I will go to the end like normal but if I get OLL parity I will do a single slice turn and solve everything again, and then solve the rest because I never know the oll parity alg from memory (learn it like 10 times but always forget)

for mega I do cross, f2l, then I solve all the edges on the left/down side normally, and then S2L and solve the last layer with 3x3 beginner method and some random commutators

If you guys can give me tips and videos I apreciate
thx

I gotchu. www.cubeskills.com is a great site to learn 4x4 techniques and Mega techniques. Jperm is also another great person to learn 4x4 and mega. However, the two main people I would recommend for Megaminx are Hein Cuber and Java Cuber. Hein hold African Record, and Java is sub-40 who just released a sub-1 tutorial.
For tips, on 4x4 I'd recommend playing around with the puzzle and try to do first two centers and the 3 cross pieces as good as you can. It's okay to solve the last cross, but I'd recommend waiting until you solve the last 4 centers so that you building them is less restricted. The 3-2-3 edge pairing is a good idea, but there's a bunch of funky cases you should be aware of and learn how to solve. The OLL parity alg I use is Rw U2 x Rw U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Lw U2 Rw' U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Rw', and to help remember it I would imagine it being mostly Rw, and the last bit is two Rw' with a U2 in between.
For Megaminx tips, make sure that your star and F2L is decent, and that you solve S2L using westlund, which is basically making more stars and F2L pairs. A set color order helps as well. I do the white star and solve the S2L order Yellow Purple Green Red/Blue. As for LL try solving as like OLL, then PLL.

As for hardware, as long as you have a good 4x4 (mgc is a goat despite being 20 dollars) and a good mega (Yuhu is only 12 and the Dayan Mega is like 35), you should be able to progress in no time.

I think the best way to improve at this point is just learn OLL parity. Try memorising the OLL parity alg by thinking of a pattern to the moves at the beginning, then do a bunch of solves until they are in your muscle memory. Then whenever you get it, don't think too hard and just do what you've practiced. OLL parity has a 50% chance of coming up so it's necessary to get faster.

Work on centers a lot for 4

@Lucas Garron did you invent the lucasparity?
Well, I'd say "discovered".

But yeah, back in May 2008 I went looking for good replacements to the r2 B2 … parity alg, and selected one as the best candidate. I shared it with folks on IRC, and they started calling it "lucasparity".

Dan Cohen learned it from me on IRC, then Yu Namakima and Feliks used it, and eventually almost everyone learned it. So my quest to find a replacement turned out pretty successful. 😎

EDIT: found the date!

Lucas parity for the win!
Also thank you for discovering the alg at them time you did it makes 4x4 OLL parity so much better.

I relearnt 4x4 parity.
It wasn't that hard... I still got muscle memory from the alg I knew!

got it on speedcubedb
(Rw U2 x Rw U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Lw U2 Rw' U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 Rw')

the ending of my 4x4 solves are ok but I have to work on my centers and cross pieces

Noice. You totally meant you got it from me, right…
Just kidding it’s fine if you didn’t see the Alf I suggest.

Sorry I didn't have the cube with me when I read your post

it's hard to go wrong with advice from Feliks

here is a link to his free Youtube tutorial playlists:

arw you still using that Meilong 4M ?
Yep

I bought a fancy maglev 4x4 but it was worst than my old cube so i gave it to my friend who was learning and kept my old one with me and I'm happy with it

Edit: i forgot to mention, but yesterday i did lotsa solves and got some 1min30, 1min45 solves, with more practice i can improve my old times
