Cubing Hot Takes, Opinions, and more!

Cubing is at a good spot right now. Does anyone understand why people say cubing is đź’€ because Yiheng is color neutral and 1-looks F2L?
Because he's from China. If he was from California or Poland and smiled during comps, people would lift him up instead of trashing him. There's also some resentment because he doesn't use a super-advanced method.

I wonder if there's anything in Chinese culture that teaches kids to be super competitive and dominate in everything they take interest in. If so, that's why he's super good and thinks of it as a career.
However, if he doesn't learn to enjoy it and calm down, it's going to destroy him. I just hope he learns to do that...

I imagine the communication barrier with the community in terms of language and lack of platforms like Discord play a bit into it as well.

Absolutely. Given China's internet censorship, there are very few ways for the Chinese cubers to communicate with the outside world. English is also one of the most difficult languages to learn as well and let's face it, the kid's under 10 years old.

Who says he's not enjoying it or calm? Maybe he's just competitive but can turn it off when not competing.

I thinking more of calming down when engaging in other cultures. In his own culture he's fine, since I think he sees everyone as like a coach/friend. However, when being around like Tymon and Max, he's pressured to do good since they are like superiors to him. Being around that much competition at such a young/inexperienced age can make anyone break down, as he cried after finals I believe. I'm using inexperienced as he's probably spent a lot of time with people around his culture and not enough time with other cultures. From what I can see in the map of comps in his WCA, he hasn't been to a competition outside the US, and only in Asia.

We are not at the peak of methods right now, we will find a strategy like intuitive multi-slotting or something and Roux, ZZ, and CFOP will become obsolete, and the only way to become a top cuber is to get to the super advanced version of those.

I do not like the condescending and elitist attitude from the cubing community nowadays.
I miss the pre-2017 days in cubing when people were more open hearted and more accepting yo.

3x3= Harder to achieve, but if pulled off there will be more attention to the achievement (a new algset, or something like that
lower developed events= you contributing to the "foundation" of it, with a little bit of attention to the acheivment
At the same time if you make your mark in 3x3 it’s way more impressive than a not very developed event. (Not saying that getting good in not-greatly developed events is a bad thing).
I see it like this
(I don't know what events we are speaking about)
