[Help Thread] Comp

The competition you attend will have timers set up, don't worry! The only thing you need to bring is the cube you will compete with, and if it is your first competition then you may need to bring some identification so that your local delegate can finalize your WCA profile.

The timers are provided, you only need to bring your cubes. Identification shouldn’t be required either

Have you literally ever been to a competition

At the competition you're going to (Berkeley Winter 2024), it won't be an issue. The delegates from this area typically don't require that you bring identification unless they send out an email and ask specifically.
I really hope you took something out of context there cause the regulations state:
2e++) ADDITION The WCA Delegate should also verify the name and date of birth by means of documents (e.g. a passport) of every new competitor at their first competition.

Should is hereby interpreted as:
"This word, or the adjective "RECOMMENDED", mean that there
may exist valid reasons in particular circumstances to ignore a
particular item, but the full implications must be understood and
carefully weighed before choosing a different course."

And I highly doubt that just generally not checking IDs can be considered in line with the regulations here.

Checking the identification of a first time competitor is indeed present in the WCA guidelines, however, as it's not a requirement, most delegates don't really do it. It can be pretty time consuming, and most delegates just don't think it's worth it. I can absolutely guarantee that @That_slow_guy won't need identification at their comp.

Actually yes, I've been to over 30! I'm also close friends with multiple delegates and have even given new competitor tutorials at competitions! Taking a quick look at your WCA profile shows me that you have only been to 6 competitions, which is although more than one, doesn't mean you are a genius. Although not always required, many delegates (especially in my area) advise first time competitors to bring identification to finish setting up their WCA profiles, although in other areas of the world delegates can be more lenient. According to Article 2e of the official regulations: "Competitors must represent a region of which they hold citizenship. The WCA Delegate should verify citizenship by means of documents (e.g. a passport) at their first competition. If a competitor is found ineligible to represent the region under which they have registered, the competitor may be disqualified retroactively and/or suspended, at the discretion of the WCA Board." I would've hated for this newcomer to arrive at his competition to find out he couldn't compete, so I figured I'd take the safer route and advise him to bring an ID! In the future, be a little more polite btw :)
