Unpopular Opinions thread.

worse than the cubes from before 2022 (technology is getting worse)
"bad" and "worse than before 2022" are not the same thing. That's like saying if Max Siauw gets a 4.12 on his next Sq-1 solve it's "bad" because it's worse than his 3.69.

So your opinion is that every single cube released since January 1, 2022 is worse than the best cubes in existence on December 31, 2021? So, for example, including the Aofu WRM and Aoshi WRM?

yes

I just saw this thread! Well, mine is simple.

My unpopular opinion is that posts on these forums that are longer than 1 sentence shouldn't require a TLDR version! That, if it takes someone 1 hour to write a post and it takes you 5 minutes to read it, that you respect the writer's time by not making them spend another 5-10 minutes of their time to save you 4 minutes of yours! Heresy, I know!

I have a few others too, but this is the one that I could express in the fewest number of sentences...

Tldr?

My unpopular opinion is that 3x3 is not a fun event. I would say that the only events that are less fun for me are OH, 3BLD, MBLD, 4BLD, 5BLD, megaminx, 5x5, 6x6, and 7x7. (BLD events because they are exausting, and 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 and megaminx because they take a long time.)

I do not like the fact that 3x3 requires you to lookahead at a fast pace.

I will learn megaminx OLL and PLL before 3x3. I genuinely dislike the event, and while I respect it being the favorite of many, I personally get zero enjoyment solving 3x3.

My unpopular opinion, which I posted here about a few years ago when I started learning to solve the 3x3, and which I still have, is that solving time should be measured as soon as the cover is removed, or as soon as the cuber sees the cube. I believe that is the real solving time (not just the turning time). There should be no inspection. This is more fair because some fast cuber needs less time for inspection and can start earlier than than a slower cuber. Setting a fixed and arbitrary amount of time for inspection is not fair to the faster thinking cuber. 🫢

The record time would be more like 5 seconds then, I think. It's simply wrong to say that someone solved the cube in just 2 or 3 seconds.
