Nominations for Possible New Event for the Weekly Competition for 2024

I believe that Corner Helicopter 2x2 would be a great candidate for a new weekly event. There is currently a discord server for speedsolving the with over 50 people and a highly competitive leaderboard for unofficial results. This puzzle has also been known as the Clover 2x2 because it is basically a combination of a clover cube and a 2x2, giving it 3 different types of moves which affect a different set of pieces. Although it looks challenging, experienced cubers can likely figure out how to solve it without much help. Getting fast requires much more efficiency which is something that is still being developed. Top solvers right now average around 1:30 but we are definitely nowhere near the endgame for this puzzle. People in the discord have been spreading the word around the community at competitions and almost everyone we have introduced it to has gotten hooked on the puzzle. Additionally, implementation to speedsolving would be quite simple because we have already developed puzzle notation and a scrambling system.

I have promised in the past to occasionally allow for the possibility of adding a new event to the Weekly Competition. As I have stated in the past, due to the software implementation, it is quite impractical to make changes to the events during a year, so I will only entertain event changes at year-end. In the past I believe we have been too quick to add new events, so I have been becoming stricter in allowing them. This year, I will only allow a maximum of one event added.

On this thread, I will take nominations for an event to be added to the Weekly Competition. The weekly average of participants this year has been 300+. Any event that gets at least 30 recommendations (10% of the weekly average of participants) over the next 10 days (ending 2023/12/14) will get its own poll thread. Note that to count as a recommendation, you must actually post on this thread with a statement that you would like to see the event added. Likes will not count as recommendations - you must actually post the recommendation yourself in order for it to count as one of the 30 needed recommendations.

The poll threads will then be open for 10 days, until December 24. The poll will be worded such that an upvote implies that the voter BOTH wants the event added AND intends to compete in it if possible, while a downvote implies that the voter specifically does not want the event added. At maximum, only one of the events will be added, but this event must also receive at least 60 upvotes (hence over 20% of the weekly average of participants) AND ALSO have more upvotes than downvotes in order for it to be added. If we do not make that threshold, no event will be added this year. I will close the poll threads after the deadline is reached.

I realize this is a somewhat high bar for an event to clear in order to be added, but I think it is best if we maintain some stability to the Weekly Competition, and I think it best that we move slowly to add new events. I honestly don't feel there has been much demand for specific new events lately, so I would not be surprised if we add no new event this year, but it is possible there is a groundswell of interest in adding some event that I'm unaware of, and I do want to maintain the possibility of being open to new events in the future. If no event makes the cutoffs above this year, we will certainly try again next year.
I nominate Corner Helicopter 2x2

Would it help to have more flexible software, or do you want to stick with the existing setup for now?

For example, it would be pretty easy to make a web page that generates all existing forum scrambles in one go (except Curvy Copter, I'm not entirely sure how scrambles for that are supposed to work) and lets you copy/export them easily.

Thanks - I already have that. :-)

Please add Corner Helicopter 2x2 as it is the fastest growing non-WCA event and has a dedicated discord server.
