Yiheng's Mom slapping Yiheng in Public

I second this. From getting my @$$ slapped, I learned that it is wrong to kick another child in the face.
I would argue that it isn't a great way to learn.

A child might think it is okay to retaliate with violence if they receive violence from a parent, as children often taken example from other adults, meanwhile other consequences would teach a child that actions have consequences and that privileges are earned.

Ok guys, I just saw this, but let’s be real, we are just saying the same thing over and over again about abuse and punishment and that stuff. Could I also point out that it is none of our freaking business to tell Yiheng’s mom what to do. She does what she wants to do, and she could get in trouble, but as a bunch of kids and some older people, which most of us don’t live in china, let’s stop making assumptions, and let’s get on with our lives.

feel free to hate on me in the comments. have a nice day 😀

As a non-Chinese cuber who can actually have chance to communicate with Chinese cubers in person and in their first languages including some of the mainland dialects, I have already tried my best to give my comment out objectively. (I’m a Singaporean-Japanese born in Hong Kong and I speak 5 languages)
Exactly. It’s not uncommon at all in any Asian fam tbh even till nowadays, but this doesn’t mean that it’s the best way to teach their kids to be a good person in the future. As someone who actually knows YiHeng’s fam and also part of the Chinese cubing community in person, I would say that most of the time his mom is reasonable, and also feeling proud of YiHeng, especially within the Chinese cubing community. However, under certain circumstances her mom may sometimes go irrational and also kinda venting her emotions on YiHeng, which is not a great thing to see.

As from my observation:
YiHeng’s mom MBTI: ENFJ
YiHeng’s MBTI: ISTJ

domestic violence/parental abuse?

you do need sufficient evidence though which is unlikely as you mostly only see him in comps
+ you do need to secretly examine him without his parent noticing which is more unlikely to be possible to do.

and also, punishment?????? sorry but i dont get the idea. punishment for me is discipline. its when you do something WRONG. so if playing a cube and making it solved, but you still took "long", you will be punished? doesnt make sense.

this is more of prespective kind on what you see it as

from my prespective i see the parent does the wrongdoings, but if its for a dumb reason and does not apologise, and its repeated, i think some legal action is needed.

the child obviously cant do anything to help, so its basically on us to help him. Either leave him or help. Choose your path. (okay not gonna be too dark). Anyway, yeah its basically the parents fault and the child cant really do anything about it.

So more further explanation on the two paths.

1: expose (alr been done) get evidence, court.
2: let yiheng grow up to idk probably 13, and then he can do something about it.

reply if you have another path or have any disagreement
They’re Chinese, they have different laws on that stuff.

I know this is kinda insensitie but can I see him flipping off the camera?

I think even if this was as unacceptable as it is, YiHeng's mom slapping him was totally out of pocket. I have an asian parent and my grandparents are asian, and yes they are more strict in some ways but they wouldn't hit me over something as petty as that.

Having watched that video and videos from the Korean cubing comps i feel sorry for Yihang, his mums clearly a ****ing nut case, its like kids in the uk or USA where the parents push them into acting/ gymnastics, ballet etc. Like home alone, McAuley. That chink ***** needs a slap!

I don't think using ethnic slurs is going to help validate any points you're trying to make. It's genuinely unnecessary, and you can still express discontent with the situation without utilizing such terms. Also, you should watch your language on a forum that's primarily comprised of children.
