Hello,
My name is Chris and I recently returned to cubing after a ~3-4 year break. I am making this thread mostly in hopes that by journaling my progress on the forums as well as on my youtube channel I can keep my motivation up for cubing and continue practicing. One of my favorite things about cubing is the versatility and the variety it provides. As a result I used to practice pretty much every event. However, now I want to turn my attention towards becoming more of a BLD specialist. Although, I still plan to practice other events intermittently.

My main focus for the time being is to try to catch up to my old times which are documented in my signature. In particular I want to get back to doing 13 cube multi blind attempts. Outside of catching up to my old times I am currently trying to learn full 3 style for corners though I am still early on in this process. I have learned all my UBL target comms from a UFR buffer, and I am planning to learn BUL and LUB targets next.

Feel free to post an questions or comments. I'd be happy to hear from you guys.

I got this in this week's forum competition. I slowed down a lot towards the end because I realized I had messed up my corner memo and basically had to make a 50/50 guess. It's still 3 minutes faster than the one I posted last week, but I am still hoping for sub-10 soon. I also got a successful mo3 for 3 BLD in the forum comp as well, so I think the blind stuff is slowly starting to come back to me.

Today, I went to my first competition in over 4 years. It was a small warm-up comp so it only had 6x6, 7x7, clock, and 3BLD.
6x6: got a pb single by 2 seconds and missed pb mean by 2 seconds

7x7: got a 3:59 single which was my first sub-4 ever including at home an I got pb mean by 9 seconds

Clock: PB single by a full second and pb average by 2 seconds. Purely attributed to my new Qiyi clock

3BLD: no pb’s but I got 2:02 in the first round to make it to the finals where I got a 1:50 to take second place for a super random podium. I wimped out a bit and reverted to OP instead of Orozco for corners. But I’m pretty sure this is the first sub 2 I have gotten in past month since getting back into cubing.

I’m super happy with all these results. It’s nice to see I am able to catch up to where I used to be.

P.S. I am still in utter shock over the sub-4 7x7 single it was so nutty.

I got this 8/9 multi blind last night and was pretty excited about it, The one bad cube was off by a single setup move. I also had an epic save in the middle where I put down my third cube forgetting to execute parity, completed the entire 4th cube, and then picked the third cube back up to execute the parity. I had a lot of pauses in execution and my memo was a bit on the cautious side, so hopefully with a bit more comfortability I can add a 10th cube in my next attempt and still remain under the hour.

I got my first 4BLD success using full center comms today in the CubingTime weekly competition. it was 14:54 with 8:55 memo. it was a bit slow but that was mostly due to my memo being terrible, and having to retrace wings a couple of times. For reference my 10:21 last week was a 4:51 memo. my execution was 20 seconds slower because I am still trying to get used to the comms, and I even mis-executed one and had to trace back to correct it. In the same competition I also got a 13:09 DNF'ed by 3 centers (might have executed a cycle backwards), and the last one was dnf due to forgotten wing memo. I still want to keep pushing for sub-10 again but it's nice to see I am making progress with comms.

I got a 9/10 Multi blind today (58:01) off by 2 twisted corners. My recall and execution were perfect but I memoed a 'w' when I should have memoed a 'm' 🙃

I failed two 10 cube attempts earlier this weekend, both being 5/10. After the first one I was really scared that I was messing up because I wasn't used to Orozco corners, so in the second attempt I switched back OP and got 5/10 again,

Now that I got this 9/10 with Orozco, my confidence has been restored.

I have also been making spreadsheets for my 3-style algs learned and a Letter pairs spread sheet for people in POA. I am currently 164/324 for 3 style UFR corners (halfway 🥳). and 184/529 for my People letter pairs (over a third done).

Good progress in MBLD.

Do you have the attempt on cam?

MBLD is my main event and I find it super fascinating yo.

I competed at Southeast regionals today.
Multi blind was the first event of the day and I managed to get 8/10 (~58:00), 4th place One cube off of podium. Both cubes were off by a of 3 cycle corners, I was pretty confident in my memo so I think I just got anxious and skipped a letter pair in execution for each cube. Pretty decent but I kinda wanted that podium.
4 and 5 BLD were combined with a cumulative 50 minute cut off time. I decided to try a 5 BLD first and I DNF'ed a 25:xy by three centers, I then attempted two 4 BLD's and dnf'ed both pretty badly. Big BLD was the last event of the day and I competed and judged in every event so I was quite mentally fatigued by this point. I messed up a lot during memo and had to constantly re-trace wings.

Blind was a little disappointing but I don't think I really had adequate time to prepare since I returned from cubing, so I guess it just is what it is and I gotta just keep training for next time.

Aside from that I got PB single and average for 5x5(1:24, 1:31) and clock(10.04, 11.03). and I got a pretty nice pb OH single (16,58) with a 4 move last layer.

Don't be too disappointed, I'm sure you'll get more comps in your area soon!

I got another 9/10. The 3BLD cube was off due to forgetting to execute a single letter pair. I feel like I am becoming much more consistent in both my memo and execution. This attempt was also much faster than my last 9/10, and I even squeezed in a extra half of a review. This means I might be able to fit in an 11th cube soon.

My UFR 3-style sheet and my Person letter pair sheet are both about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way done and I feel like they are both helping me a lot

I did a 10 multi cube attempt for the weekly forum comp I got 8/10 in 53:43.

My 3BLD cube was off by three edges because for some reason I decided to do a pseudo swap when I don't normally do that for multi-blind. I then instinctively performed the wrong parity alg. I was really annoyed by this mistake and I am never doing pseudo swap again until I integrate into my normal multi technique. The other cube was of by two twisted corners because I memorized a target incorrectly.

On the plus side I got a good time for me which means I think I can try to fit 11 cubes within the hour on my next attempt
