How does Max Park do it?

Guys, I couldn’t find this in the forum. Max Park using only single flicks not only keeps up with but is one of the worlds fastest cubers. When it comes to OLLs & PLLs? You see the top cubers showing Sub-1 OLLs & PLLs using double flicks all the time. It doesn’t seem possible to to do the same with only single flicks. I was wondering does he make up for the slight loss in OLL & PLL speed with unnatural TPS in Cross and F2L or can he single flick OLLs & PLLs as fast as the rest of the top cubers double flick? Coming back to cubing from medical issues even though I can double flick with both hands the cube feels more secure in hand doing single flicks but at an obvious loss of speed especially OLLs & PLLs. Is what Max does a special gift or with lots of practice could mere mortals single flick like Max ?

As usual, thanks for any help in advance.

Truthfully, his lookahead is extraordinary. He's efficient, doesn't pause, and picks great pairs to do next. And his single flicks are so practiced that his U U is faster than most people's U2 anyway.
So he must have world's fastest (R U')63
(Was it 63?)

Question is how much faster would he be if he took the "time" to adjust from single to double, and how long till he readjusted his mind and body from single to double being his togo to or natural cubing state?
I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the necessary motor skills to do double flicks. Maybe he could build them up with enough time, but it would take much, much longer than a normal person to learn to double flick which wouldn't be worth it when he could be practicing other stuff.

I want to add that he probably tried double flicks at some point, but it hinders his look-ahead. He has such high TPS; any higher would stop him from looking-ahead

He has really high tps which is part natural talent and part tons of practice. So unless you can match his tps which a lot easier if you start cubing young, double flicks will be faster.

If you (or anyone else) are trying to use Max Park as an excuse to not learn doubleflicking, don't. Doubleflicking will make you faster. If you have an actual medical condition like Max Park does, that's a different story, but if you're physically capable of doing them, you should.

Seems double flick has a "slightly" different lookahead, 90 degree difference, than single x 2 flick so maybe his great solving would just need an adjustment or different way at looking at lookahead not so much a monumental different strategy through my perspective but I'm only a new comer basically so maybe with more experience or grace I'd have a different personal opinion I dunno!? Basically with his awesomeness he could do the adjustment in a few months if not less...

Lookahead isn't an issue for people doing double flicks. The reason he doesn't do them is that he has autism and issues with motor skills.

Guys, as usual thank you so much for saving me from going down a rabbit hole I don't need to. I will continue working on my double flicks!

Double flicks are one of the advanced fingertricks you can do. Without them, your solves would be slower. Max Park is an exception because of this autism and motor skills haven't really kicked in as much as they should have, but that doesn't give you an excuse to not do them.
Good luck and happy cubing!

you must be kidding. double flicks are almost as old as rubik's cube itself

Uh, guys I'm not saying double flicks are new/old nor do I think lookahead is a thing that requires either/or single/double flicks!

I was just saying if the only thing "El Max" does that is not the same as most, single flick that I'm sure if he's got this far, and I've seen him in the distant past be at 30sec for 3x3, that he could if he wanted and above his disability, he could relearn and be even faster and that's my story and I'm sticking to it :p...lol

Stop. The reason why this thread was not to argue about how old double flicks are, but was to see if single flicks are better than double. Obviously single flicks are slower than double. Conlcusions have been reached. No more.

I'm not arguing or being aggressive, I too am disabled and learn about a hundred times slower than most solvers so I was just being positive, not blaming a learning disability or physical disibility but having a positive reaction to the thread being about how he does it!

Don't talk to me like that again!

I like Max, am doing the best I can being severely disabled and was just being POSITIVE and hopeful!

I didn't realize that. I am truly sorry.
The reason why Max used the single flick was because of disability with the double flick, since his fine-motor skills were coming in slow.
However, that doesn't mean you should try not doing the double flick. Max has learned how to use single flicks and keep a smooth solve going, but doing double flicks keep the flow of a good solve better.
Again, my apologies, and happy cubing.
