Cubing@Home Chess event

[abunickabhi]

The Cubing@Home, Keaton and Saransh and others are working on a segment for Cubing at Home 2.2 where a Chess Grandmaster will be playing chess with some fast cubers.

I am quite excited about this project and I am excited to spectate this live event.

The timing of the event can be found here: https://www.cubingathome.com/cah2.2/schedule

This is awesome! I’m a chess player myself, but by no means a fast cuber. Do you know who the Grandmaster will be, or where they are from?

[cuberbutnotacuber]

Oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no i'm getting wrecked. Absolutely. If I were to play against him of course. But still, as a kid who won one game with the queen's gambit, pretty exciting to see. I wonder who the gm will be. (Hopefully Hikaru.)

The grandmaster who is giving the simul is Grandmaster FIdel Corrales Jimenez from USA/ Cuba.

I have recently started playing chess a bit but quit due to my sore loser-induced rage sessions (not that bad, just angry at myself for some reason lol) after getting destroyed by beginners. I do really like watching chess though so this should be interesting!

Hikaru Nakamura is a noob. (jk)

Hikaru has a 3000 rating in blitz. And he has the bongcloud intro. Masterpieces.

Interesting!!

Btw I know some pretty basic opening stuff but have lost against beginners mostly due to me being a total middlegame and endgame noob lol.

[cuberbutnotacuber]

You and I are alike Cubing Forever. I don’t know endgames so I go straight for the pieces lol.

LOL I suck at starting but I am not that bad after.

do you have chess.com?

[DNF_Cuber]

do you have chess.com?

no, I haven't played much in years, but I could consider getting it

It's those bad openings that get you into deep trouble pretty quick.
@cuberbutnotacuber My middlegames are bad too. It's usually landing into a pretty bad fork or pin and downhill from there.

[cuberbutnotacuber]

Yea like the fools checkmate. I play against my dad sometimes, but uh, let’s just say he knows how to counter my moves WELL. I opened on a Queens Gambit and he immediately went to Declined. I really had no clue what to do after that.

my blitz rating is around mid 1500, i would like to compete but i probably can't

[cuberbutnotacuber]

Nice @Alex Davison! Mine is...... 150

[CraZZ CFOP]

Apparently, only really fast cubers (not necessarily in 3x3) are being invited.
People that I know who are getting invited include Abhijeet Ghodgaonkar (rating is about 1500), Kavin Tangtartharakul (rating is about 2000), Patrick Ponce (rating is about 1400).

Good luck @abunickabhi!

[the dnf master]

Will this comp affect chess rating or is it unofficial?

I think the simul that is going to be conducted with 4-5 cubers will be a casual match and will not affect the online rating of the 4-5 cubers or the GM.
