I just bought an Eastsheen 2x2 from HKNowsStore on discount and it is the smoothest puzzle I've ever used. Sandy smooth which you just don't get with today's puzzles because the inner plastic itself feels frosted. Ofc the puzzle performs like shite since it has no screws and absolutely zero corner cutting, but still. Sadly the puzzle didn't have the Eastsheen logo and it's from a time when they used purple instead of orange. Now I'm tempted to get the whole 2x2, 4x4, 5x5, mini 2x2 set just for my collection.

try modding it with magnets, try get it to corner cut well, and see how viable that is

Right now idk how to even disassemble it. I suspect it's like a Rubik's brand where it's pretty much impossible to disassemble without really forcing some plastic bending.

Thinking of doing a modded zhanchi myself, at some point. I've heard that if it has magnets it can still be an amazing cube for stable turners.

The zhanchi I have has a nice glidy white plastic but I think its main drawback is the harsh snappiness of larger reverse corner cutting. If the centers are rounded it could be much nicer.

Yeah, disassembling it is not a great idea. It's built a lot like the Rubiks 2x2 and you would have to break a piece or two to get it apart.

I'd like to see a cube company try out frosted plastic on the inside. Modern cubes are differentiated most by feel nowadays so why not.

I think the problem with that is the feeling wouldn't last very long. We have already seen that frosted plastic gets worn down by your fingers over time. I'm assuming that the same thing would happen, possibly faster, to the internals due to contact with the other pieces in the cube. it's still an interesting idea though, and I bet that it would make lube last pretty long.

Yeah you're right. Also I think 3D printed plastic stuff like Shapeways material is pretty rough so it has a sandy feel too.

What is the point? Eastsheens hasn't been the best 2x2 for 10 years.

It is not a good cube at all even back in 2009 people were annoyed at it.
your right but its rare to find and get it nowadays so people keep it as old treasure

Hipster alert! Jk. My old Eastsheen 2x2 is far from anything I’d call good By today’s standards though. It was a fantastic choice ~10years ago but it is absolutely brutal to solve with now...zero corner cutting! They do have a unique feel and that purple instead of orange is quite iconic. I regret getting rid of my old Eastsheen 4x4, it was the king of 4x4s in its time.

the correct term is boomer alert :p the Eastsheen 2x2 is before my time. When I started there was already ghosthand 2x2 which is miles better than eastsheen. a little later in 2011 or something there was the v-cube 2, then maybe in 2012 there was the wittwo which is still a usable if very crunchy cube today. back then I didn't care about 2x2 at all though. I had a broken rubik's ice cube and a large 60mm unknown chinese brand 2x2 which is like the eastsheen but had screws on the side of the pieces for disassembly.

you can still buy eastsheen cubes from hknowstore and I recommend doing it before they go out of stock forever

I know you're joking, but they are really not rare nor desirable enough to sell for more than a few dollars. There are some puzzles that actually do sell for over $1000. The ones I know of are the original astrolabacus (Tony Fisher says in a video description "The Astrolabacus is widely regarded as the rarest, most sought after, valuable factory made twisty puzzle ever.") and handmade vintage puzzles from puzzle designers like Fisher. (If you think GAN puzzles are expensive, head over to the TwistyPuzzles forum marketplace :p)

I recently assembled my fangshi shuangren with primary internals i've had unopened for a bit now and besides the cube looking really slick, the turning has a pleasant very sandy feeling. the internals are in between glossy and frosted. So companies have definitely tried it before and I've seen other cubers agree with me that that cube has a very unique feeling.
