Hello fellow cubers! Kind of a misnomer, I’m only a cuber by means of playing with a Rubik’s cube. I know next to nothing about speedcubing, but I am getting ready to venture from the beginners method to beginners CFOP. No idea how I’ll do. I’m an 'ol gummer and Learnin’ don’t come easy. I probably started cubing before everyone here. My sister bought her and me a “Magic Cube” back around 1977-1978. We challenged each other with a “solve” we had to buy separate from the cubes. We memorized it and raced each other. Never heard of any cubers and their was no easy communication because this was not only before the internet was popular, but before there was generally home computers (I didn’t get my Vic20 until after 1980). Anywho we gave it up inside that first year and I haven’t really been back to it since. The cube followed me around the US as I changed jobs frequently, and every so often I picked it up and tried to solve it. Eventually completely forgot. So this year my grandniece is getting into the STEM programs and requires a science project. So I had read about a LEGO project for a robot that solves Rubik’s Cubes. My sister, niece and great niece all thought it was a great idea. So I started studying all I didn’t know about Rubiks Cubes (which was everything) and it again piqued my attention. So I’ve been playing with one since starting this project and now I’m bent on getting sub-60 second solves. While reading various articles, watching YouTube and such, I came across this forum while trying to decide between stickered and stickerless cubes for when I buy a GAN Robot. Thus, here I am. Hope you can all help me hit my goals. I might even try entering a WCA tournament just to say I did it if I can get sub-30’s.
