Gear ball gear orientation

I'm trying to solve the gear ball and have solved everything but the gears that are in between faces. I'm running into an issue, though, where I orient one gear (with R4 or R4') and mess another one up. Sometimes, the gear is entirely flipped (the rail lines up, but the colors are swapped).

Sometimes, the gears can do almost a corner twist kinda thing. This may be your problem.

But are there certain ways to prevent from brute-forcing the gear the wrong way?
Unfortunately, it happens all the time. The more you use your gear ball, the more the edges twist as the cube gets looser. But as it gets looser, twisting edges also gets easier and requires less force.

Hi guys, I am running into the same problem here where the gear ball is completely solved except for 4 edges that are rotated 180 deg the wrong way, which is impossible to fix via R4 since that gives 120 deg rotations.

I’m willing to accept I may have forced it by accident at some point, but I’m skeptical of this since I feel like I had been really careful with it. Since reading post above, I’ve tried forcing it a few times now without success, which makes it all the more surprising this could have happened by accident, and so also wondering if perhaps there is a yet-unsolved-by-mankind parity condition here?

In any case, any suggestions on how to safely force the gears to the correct rotation? I’m not sure how I should be holding the ball to do this.

Thank you!

Well it felt extremely abusive, but I did manage to get everything lined up correctly by turning one edge at a time (I was trying to rotate all of them together before). Hopefully everything “just works” from here on out, but I will be giving extra special attention to whether I feel any gears slipping and will post again if I run into this again.

Happy cubing!

An R4' should fix it. R4 and R4' are different.

Hi brododragon, thanks for reply. I definitely tried multiple iterations of both R4 and R4’. But I’m confused how that could fix a 60/180/300 deg rotation problem when I can only rotate by 120/240/360 deg?

Also, I made several attempts at mixing it all up and resolving and ended up back at same problem. Now that I manually fixed the alignment I was able to mix & solve just fine.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m trying to solve my gear ball. I got the corners, and edges done. But I can’t figure out how to do the pieces right next to the main square if that makes sense what should I do?

is this what you have?
