The flu is so bad this year. This thread is inspired by some other posts I have seen on the forums. I was wondering if you have been to a competition and caught the Flu or a cold because of other people spreading germs, you being tired, etc.

^lol.

On a more serious note though, I've had two minor flus, and I even got vaccinated! I can't say much about comps though, since my city rarely has them, but I bet all the scrambling and sharing cubes isn't helping with the spread of germs.

Definitely have had my share of colds after competitons. Kids are gross, cubes are even worse.

Yeah.
Sharing cubes, everyone touching timers, pens, etc. = Germs spreading easily

I haven't got sick yet, but I am very careful to keep my hands clean. Washing then many times throughout the day, hand sanitizer, and washing hands before eating anything.

I can see how it would be pretty easy to get sick at a comp but it's not like it's a whole lot deferent then going to Walmart and touching items on display.

Cubes are inherently pretty gross though. Dirt/gunk gets caught inside the cubes, which means the outside gets somewhat dirty too, especially if thin lubes are used. Items on display at a store may get a variety of people using them, but are not heavily used like a cube is.

Also, when you're running/scrambling cubes at a competition, you're getting a whole variety of different people's dirt and germs. In that case it's way worse than the exposure of just touching display items at the store. I teach for a living, and never are my hands after teaching anywhere close to as grimy/dirty as they are after being at a competition.

I feel like you have just as much of a chance getting sick hanging out with friends and being around people as you do being at a comp.
Germs are spread easily at competitions because there are lots of people and everyone is touching the same things. Walmart there are still lots of people but everyone is not touching the same things except the carts which (studies have shown) are very dirty. That along with eating and being tired, can make it a good place for spreading germs and getting sick.

Im always around people, go to stores a lot and have 5 siblings so I'm not worried about getting sick at a comp. btw touching other people's cubes is your choice.
