With so many people becoming extremely good at events, It is probably time we should add something new for people to practice. So, what better idea would it be other than to bring another 3x3 event variant to the table, this time with two people working together?

Here is how it would work.

There are two people in a team: A solutioner and a solver. Neither person can have an active electronic on them while doing the event.

Rules and instructions for the solutioner:

The solutioner is presented with two cubes of the same scramble, same orientation. One cube is under a cover, while the other is for the Solutioner to devise a solution. After a 15 second inspection for the solutioner, they must start the timer and begin to write down a solution to the cube as fast as possible. To restate, Team blind isn't an FMC competition, because you are rushing against the clock to make a solution for the solver. They can use the uncovered cube as a tool for reaching a solution, though not required. Once the solutioner writes down a solution, they must place the solution on the cube cover, and get up and leave the table. They must give the uncovered cube to the judge, who will then put the cube away and under a cover to prevent cheating.

Rules and instructions for the solver:

Except for looking at the solution for the cube, the solver must be blindfolded with a blindfold, and an object that acts as a partition. When the solutioner leaves the table, and hands the uncovered cube to the Judge, the judge must yell "open." This will tell the solver that the solutioner has created a solution for them to look at. The solver has unlimited time to look at the solution to absorb the solve. Once ready, they must put on the blindfold, and then the cube will be uncovered. The solver must solve the cube with the given solution as fast as possible. Once finished, the solver must stop the timer. The faster this process is done, the better.

What are your thoughts on this event idea?

With this method of team blind, I find it hard to believe there would be a better method than writing down BLD memo, which would make it too similar to 3BLD IMO.

The magic of this though is that the solver has no actual way of looking at the cube at any time of the event, unlike 3BLD where you are given unlimited inspection of the cube.

Are you aware this is not the normal way of doing team blind though?

Yes, I am aware. However, cube competitions can tend to be very noisy, and would be difficult to teamblinders, and especially distracting for others.

I feel like this would be normal bld but with someone shouting out memo to you. The problem with that is it also makes it very easy for other people to listen to other groups memo and cheat. You also run into other problems like one cube being misscrambled which would completely mess things up.

These are the issues I was going to raise originally, but from OP's post it seems their version would not involve talking to the solver.

In 3BLD, you do not have unlimited time for inspection. The time taken to look at the cube and memorise it counts toward the total solution time.

As said already, the best way to approach this is for the solutioner to write down a BLD memo as quickly as possible, and then the solver would apply that memo. What makes it far easier than normal 3BLD is that the solver here has unlimited time to memorise the solution.

But wouldn't a good enough CFOP solve beat this? With enough practice, the competitors could easily get faster than their CFOP times

How do you propose a team event would be recorded in WCA results and rankings?

Aside from that I agree with previous posters. This suggestion is just BLD but with a weird and overcomplicated joint effort on the memo.
