I thought it would be interesting to have a thread talking about whether we've gotten friends and family into cubing. So I guess I'll start. This month, my friend from school wanted me to teach him how to solve the 2x2. I taught him the Ortega/Varasano method, and we've come up with our own names for certain algorithms (F sexy F' is stuff, sexy sledge is other stuff, adjacent swap on top and bottom is double bar, and adjacent on top, diag on bottom is DGCubes... yeah...) to make it easier for him to recognize, I suppose? I don't even know. anyway, we drilled these algorithms during a trip to a Mathcounts competition and he's borrowing my 2x2 for a week. We even plan to go to Big Apple Spring together. :)

So that's my story. Share yours down below.

I started a rubik's cube (sort of) revolution at my school. I showed a few friends in 2013, and they showed their friends, now there's around 20 people who can solve it.

I began cubing 1 year ago. Some months after i began one of my friends wanted to know how :tu. so i learned him LBL and then after that i also started some kind of "revolution" on my school:cool:. I think about 30 people on my school is now cubing :-D . But they are not near as good as me :p ...

My mom averages 40-45 seconds on 3x3, and my dad averages 1:00-1:10. We're all going to compete at Alpharetta Open! I haven't gotten any of my friends into cubing yet, but there's always time.

I got my niece cubing a couple of years ago but she doesn't really practice. I've just posted on another thread that my 9 year old nephew just got his first solve in 3 mins and is now sub 2. I got him a cube a couple of years ago too but he wasn't interested until he saw me compete recently. I think he has considerable potential.
