I have solved one side of the Rubik's 3X3 cube. Also, the second layer is all solved except one edge piece is flipped the wrong way.

Just wanted to know what do you do if one of the edge pieces on the second layer is flipped? I really don't have any clue how to proceed from here..
Pls help.

just insert another edge piece as you did with the rest, and insert the edge piece the right way

Spoiler: wrong edge on RF, algorythm: R U' R' U' F' U F' U' R U' R' U' F' U F'

Adnansami,

If one edge is in the second layer flipped, use whatever algorithm you were using before to put another edge into its place, then put the edge back in correctly.

Just came up with an analogy that I wish I would've asked right away:
Your car is parked in your garage and for some reason you want to turn it around. What do you do?

I'm very sure people can solve this on their own and there's no need to take that feeling of success from them.

hmmmm.... first id wonder were and when i got a garage and a car.... but yes it does make scence to explain it that way, great analogy! :) another option (and in my mind the obiouse one) i is to dissasemble the house and garage and to rebuild it around the car so that its the way you perfer.

1) misalign that edge so it's over the R face,

2) push up on the R face and pop out the edge

3) Re-insert in proper orientation

=]

warning! the rest of your cube must be solved for this to work

Finally dit it...

Adnansami,

If one edge is in the second layer flipped, use whatever algorithm you were using before to put another edge into its place, then put the edge back in correctly.

This solution seems to have worked. I tried putting some another edge (anyone) in the position where I had a flipped edge. Once done, i retried putting the correct edge over that position, and this time it fitted correctly. Donno the logic behind it but it worked. Thanks a ton.

Thanks everyone for helping out.

What The Algorithm Does: It inserts an edge piece into the wanted position (while keeping the first layer done). It takes out the edge piece that's already there, and put it in the top layer.

Your Mistake: You positioned the edge piece incorrectly before performing the algorithms, and it remained incorrectly positioned.

What Should Have Been Done: There are 2 algorithms for inserting edges during this step. You should have positioned it the other way, and done the other algorithm.

How Do You Take It Back Out To Try Again?: You did this by repeating the algorithm on an incorrect edge. Why? Remember, it takes out the piece already in position, and that piece was your flipped edge. So doing the algorithm again took the piece back out.

Now What? You inserted the edge correctly this time, because you positioned it correctly, and did the right algorithm.

How Do I Prevent This Mistake From Happening Again? Make the sure edge you're trying to insert lines up correctly. As in, the the color on the edge that's above the center piece should matches the center piece's color. EXAMPLE: If you want the insert the green-orange edge, and the green is facing upwards, while the orange is on the front, line up the orange on the edge with the orange center, and do the correct algorithm to insert it.

Thanks a lot...

Thanks buddy...
Though I figured that out later by myself but you have put it into words very correctly... Cheers!!!

Your Welcome, and lol I basically put everything you learned into text...

It's important to understand how an algorithm works and know exactly what's going on when you perform it... *loses train of thought* You get the idea, right?

Ok I admit I might've been wrong about him...

Depends on the size of the garage.
Too narrow to turn the car around in place.

For the record (although I guess it's obvious), the intended answer is:
Drive the car out of the garage, then drive it back in the right way.

or you can take both the car and the garage door out, seperate them by pulling the garage door down and then turn the U layer 180*, put the car back to the U layer, and turn the R side so that they align, then insert them into the garage again

Did that make sense?
