When i first started, i had new re-tooled rubik's..my average was around 5 min then it broke like a week after i bought it then..then got an eastsheen average went down to around 3 min..after first month 2nd month iwas hovering around 2:30 and stayed there for 2 months then a bought a v-cube which got my time down to 2:10 and now i average just sub 2 or 2:04 or something like that.
which took me around 3 months go get to.

How long did it take you?

PB is 1:43.23 :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

umm at first i was just playing with my friends es 5x5 and was hovering around 4:30, then i got my v-cube and i stayed at 3:30 three weeks ago at caltech 08, then my mom confiscated my cubes so i am only left with my v5 :( so i only have that to practice.. which turned out to be a good thing
after three weeks i am now averaging sub 2:05
pb avg 1:55.55
single 1:41.60
hey look josh you and i are pretty tied up .. we should race ^.^

Umm.... Let' see. I started with an ES in EARLY 07 but I used Matt Monroe's method, which is hilariously silly. Disregarding that, I got a rubiks from toys 'r us and started practicing with that. I'm pretty sure i got sub-3 pretty quickly. I was at 2:30 just after US Open 07, and from there took a couple of more months to get a sub-2 single. I wasn't averaging sub-2 until November/December. Got down to high 1:30 avgs around May of 08. Got my v-cube in July, and set the WR avg of 1:29 in August.

Hope that helps :p

im still not good yet, but ...
bought rubiks 5x5 2yrs ago, solved it like 3 times (best 10:30), stopped solving it for 2 yrs ... started cubing again ... relearned the 5x5 in quicker ways, bought a vcube 5, time was 7:14 like 2 months ago, then 6s, 5s, and a best in the mid to late 40s 1 month ago ... in the past month ive gotten my best down 3:20 w/ a 3:47 avg ... i wish i had lube in my v5

I got my first 5x5 sometime around april of this year. 3 months later I was averaging 3:30-3:40. I stopped for 2 months because my rubik's was not fun to solve and my eastsheen was popping like crazy. In late september I started again with a v-cube and switched to vertical AvG when I was 3:10-3:15. My first sub-3 average was mid-october, now 2 months later Im 2:20-2:30. I've only had one sub 2:10 solve so sub 2 average is quite a ways away.

sub-2 averages after 3 months is crazy, and edward, 3:30 to 2:05 in 3 weeks is ridiculous! And btw, what is Matt Monroe's method?

bought a eastsheen 5x5x5, averaged about 4:30. Hated the eastsheen, got a re-tooled rubik's studio, averaged about 3:30 within a week or two of that, stopped cubing for ages, got a v-cube, average 2:16 with a best of 2:06, I'm hoping to break sub 2 soon :) Just gotta work on dropping my edges and centres times.

I started speedsolving the 5x5x5 in June. I practiced for a month or two, then stopped entirely, then picked it back up a month or so ago. Last week I got to the point where I'm consistently sub-3.

Doesn't this depend alot on how long you'd been cubing beforehand and how fast you are at solving other cubes, like the 3x3 and 4x4. I mean, you couldn't expect someone who learnt how to solve a 3x3 a week ago and pick up a 5x5 to progress as quickly as a sub 20 3x3 cuber who neglected big cubes and is now picking them up.

my history with the 5x5

about 1 1/2years ago - Rubik's brand about 6 minutes
about 1 year ago - rubik's brand about 5 minutes
about 3/4 years ago - ES about 4 minues
didn't practice for a while
just now - sub 4 minutes
later - sub 3:30
