I'm Anthony. If you're reading this, thanks! I like to be good at everything I do. And cubing is something that I want to be really good at. Ive been cubing for about a week now.
I use a standard Rubik's version 2.0, and I dont know what brand 2x2 I have because it was given to me by a friend, which is what got me into cubing. I had seen my friend with his 2x2 and 3x3 for a couple days, and the fact that he could solve them and I couldnt really bugged me. So one day, I decided I was gonna try the 2x2. I failed. Miserably, I might add. But I was determined. So when i went home, I looked up videos of people solving 2x2s, and took mental notes. The next day, I went and found him, and asked him to let me try again. He laughed and tossed me the cube. I fiddled with it, and somehow I was just able to recall the algorithms I saw the day before. I dont know how, but I had remembered all the moves, just in a slower form. I was able to solve the 2x2 in about 4 minutes, and tossed it back to him, and at the same time mocked his laugh because, to be honest, I felt like hot ******* for solving a 2x2. XD.

A few days later, my friend said he was so tired of his little 2x2 because it would CONSTANTLY pop on him. And when I say constantly, I mean it would pop about 6 times in the one class that i have with him, and a piece would launch across the class at least once a day. So he then asks me if I'd like to have it. Of course I think hes joking, so I say, "yea, sure. lol" next thing I know, the cube is landing on my desk and shatters. great. so the cube that was just given to me is already in pieces and I have no idea how to put it together. I take the rest of the class messing with the pieces and finally figure out how they fit together, and fix it. I then started practicing right away, and havent stopped. That is, until my dad comes home with a standard 3x3 after i told him about the 2x2. I had been wanting a 3x3 ever since I solved the 2x2, and my dad is one that is ok with spending money on a hobby for me, since all i do is sit in my room. I was so happy about getting it that I didnt even care that it could barely turn and got stuck on every corner(I grabbed silicone spray about an hour later and lubed it, as well as loosened the screws). Thats how I started. Its been a week and I've improved marvellously, and I still am.

My averages and bests:
2x2: avg-31sec. best-14.2sec
3x3: avg-1min46sec. best-1min20sec.

I also like playing Steam games. I have a lot, so im not gonna list all of them. But my favorites are Borderlands 2, Blockstorm, and Robocraft, but I'm always up for something new.

Umm..Not much else i guess.

Thanks guys :D

I use beginner methods for the 2x2, and im learning advanced CFOP for the 3x3.

Hopefully you can upgrade to a speedcube soon, because using a Rubik's brand will start developing bad habits (i.e. wrist turns instead of finger tricks).

There's some really cheap speedcubes available. The best cheap one is the YJ GuanLong which is usually around $5 with shipping (depending on where you live, and how long you're willing to wait).

Yea, I've been trying to avoid that. But its hard to tell if I am or not without having someone else here to give me pointers or let me know. And I'll see about getting a speedcube soon. The only issue is money, since I dont have a source of income yet

Thats really cool actually. It makes me want to keep working at it and get faster so I can get to a 15sec avg in a timespan like that. Almost even a challenge to see if I can do it faster XD I always need a goal in mind to do good at stuff, so it helps :D

good initiative! yeah goals definitely help, especially short-term ones.

Ive found that the best way for me to hold onto a hobby and not get bored of it is to always find a way to make it really challenging. Like for the 2x2, I've started trying to see how much of it I can do without looking, and for the 3x3, try to get better with lookahead and memorizing algorithms. I also want to get a 4x4 and try to solve it without looking up anything for it. I want to start thinking strategically about it and not rely on charts and videos. Ive been getting better at it but I still use them a lot more than I'd like
