Benchmark scrambles?

Are there any "popular" scrambles that cubers use to measure their methods and timings?

I've only ever randomly scrambled the cube before a solve, never used a set scramble. I'm thinking about finding a few scrambles and see how that works out, solving the same scramble over and over... so any particular scrambles I should know about, easy ones, nightmare ones?

Is there an online scrambler that can print off a large number of scrambles (say, 25?) of 4x4 and 5x5? Jaap's has pictures; printing off 25 would eat up way too much paper.

I just use the one used in the weekly competitions.

That's a good approach, but it only gives a couple (5 at a time) scrambles per week; I want to do around 10-25 solves a day.

Okay. I just made a thread on this topic after not finding it with searching. Sorry about that (Never thought to search for the word "benchmark"). Still, I want to know why so many people used these canned scrambles. It seems almost like cheating in a way. Many people could get sub 20 with a known and often used scramble, but drop them in a competition with an unknown scramble and they may not even be fast enough to qualify. So what is the benefit of using these preset scrambles?
