An Electronics Question (related to stackmat timers)

Okay I got a question; lets say you connect a rechargable battery to its charger and plug it in there and lets say this battery slot you connect via wires; the contact points of the battery to the battery slot if you would like recharge the battery, would it short out the electronic with the battery slot? I'm asking this because someone on the IRC chat asked about if there was a way to make stackmat batteries easily rechargeable; i.e not having to take off the battery lid and replace it. A stackmat battery is a CR2032 coin cell battery btw.
