Hello and best wishes from Germany.
I am 45 years old, I have discovered in the 80s as a teenager the cube and thus had fun.
Now, many years later I discovered the fun of the cube again.

I started on 8 November 2014, with the Speedcubing.
I still use with the Beginner method and 2-Look OLL / 2-Look PLL.
Average of 5: 48.41
Fastest single: 40.07

I would like to come with the Beginner Method to 40 sec. Average and then learn F2L.
Unfortunately, I can manage for a month already not jump on the 40 sec.

Competition experience I have not until now. But would like to take part in competitions from a reasonable time.

At cubes I've tried already following:

Aolong V1 & V2, Weilong, Gans III, ZhanChi V5.

With the Weilong I managed the sub60.

The Aolong I'm not quite right because the rounded stickers bring me confused. Also, I think the Aolong V2 something sluggish than its predecessor.

The Gans III Cube is crazy. I would love to use this cube because it can be turned so easily. However, I'm not quite sure if the cube is often used under the Speedcubers and whether it is well suited.

The ZhanChi V5 is currently my main cube. However, I realize that I do not have the ZhanChi completely under control. Often one entire layer twisted in my hands. And tighten the screws I'm still not quite practiced.

I would be glad if someone has ideas and suggestions what or what next I should learn to improve my time.

From the time when all are worth a contest to participate?

I look forward to the forum and all members.

My goal until 8. November 2015: 10 sec.

Regards,
temponaut

PS: Please excuse, my english is not so good but I'll give my best.

Hello! Your english is fine! For improvement, 2 look oll and 2 look pll are perfect, and you shiuld work on learning and getting comfortable with F2L.

Many thanks for your response.
Also, thank you that you say my English is fine, that gives me more motivation to learn the language better.

You tell me I should to learn F2L. Should I start with F2L now or only when I get the 40 sec. with the beginner method?

Regards,
temponaut

gans III is, in fact, now used by the felik's zemdegs, WR holder for the average.
This. At your speed, zhanchi is fine, and maybe lubing it with a heavy lube will help control it. Weilong/aolong/gans will be great when you are faster. BTW guroux nice sub 9.5!

Oh I did not know that. Most say he would use the Aolong. Thanks for the information.

learn it now, it might be pretty hard to get sub 40 with beginner's method.

The earlier you learn that sooner you get used to it. ;D

Also, use whatever cube that feels comfortable. What speed you are does not dictate what cube you should use. If you feel a zhanchi is too fast, and you love the gans3, definitely use the gans3.

Yes, learn f2l now. What I found to help me when I was starting out was to do untimed solves while watching tutorials on youtube. There are many awesome resources for f2l tutorials, and watching all of them will give you more information and a new way to look at things.

thanks! let's see if i can get sub 9 before you get sub 11.

Doubt it. Well, maybe. After this short break in school, I wont be cubing on weekdays for a few weeks, but on weekends, I will just solve and solve. I think ryan will get sub 11 soon, then I will get sub 11.5, then I catch ryan at sub 11 and u get sub 9 (which would be awesome cuz sub 9 is world class). Wow. I always thought u were soo much faster than me but its only 2.5 seconds... at our speed its a lot but if you dont have a cuber's perspective its nothing...

Thanks.
Wow you are sub 9.5 this time is currently for me a another universe :)

Sub 12 for me seemed ridiculous and I never thought I would get this far. I said I would be happy to get sub 30. Dont worry, stay motivated, and you WILL get here (sub 12) then eventually there (sub 9.5)

Hmm, you're right. I have, since some days feel as if I had stuck me. I think some videos are sure to be useful.

I'm always a little confused which one cube to use.
Gans III is from the feeling the best for me.

Unfortunately, this is so that when I've used the ZhanChi I achieved with the Gans III bad times. And the other way as well.
I'll practice for some times with Gans III.

This is crazy!
I have now solved the Gans III a couple of times.
After the fourth solve I have improved my fastest single time of 40.07 sec to 37.27 sec.
