[Official] Nathan Soria DNF(1.71) Skewb Single

What even is this notation?

I think it is Rubikskewb.

Also, wow. This is really surprising. So many solves are being disqualified because of mis-scrambles. When will we implement this signed system again?

L R L' R L' U' L U L' B' U (Actual scramble)
L R L' R L' U' L U L' B' U' (The scramble Nathan got)

Using Nathan's scramble, he probably did this:

r y' R r'
r' R r R'

Which can be cancelled into

r y' R r R r R'

Which is a 6 move solution, illegal skewb state.

EDIT: Nathan, I know you've worked hard to get mad fast at skewb, and you totally deserve to have a skewb record. I honestly feel terrible that this happened to you since you did nothing wrong, and wouldn't even be able to tell you got a 6 mover.

:(

Thanks Jay. I honestly am not sure of what's going to happen, but I do have 1/4 board members on my side so far :/

I was there, and i must say that even watching a now-probably-not-a-world-record World record, it was pretty awesome. Especially since they originally announced it to be a North American record and not a World Record.

I was there also and I was in the middle of my solve when it happened, so what would have been a 12 second solve turned into a 20 second solve because all the cheering was so distracting.

From a regulation standpoint we all know the result should be a DNF/DNS.

If the misscramble gave Nathan equal difficulty then I don't see why the record shouldn't stay, but because it made it easier than the original solution and because it was a 6 move possible solution then in that case it should not stand. As for what Jay said about how Nathan deserves a record, well then how would people feel if someone not very good at skewb got a 6 move WR solution? I think that saying that he deserves it just because he is fast is not a valid justification. It's a shame that the delegate messed up the last move, but this leaves a lot of questions. Did he not check the scramble? Was this the only cube scrambled incorrectly? Were they behind in the schedule which caused the misscramble?

It's a shame that this happened because it wasn't Nathan's fault. Whatever the board decides I will support.

I think he was just giving Nathan a compliment, and saying it's unfortunate that he'll probably lose an attempt and have a great solve go to waste.

Since only the last move was off, it's also possible that the layer overturned while it was being transported to the solving station or when it was placed in the cover.

at the beginning of inspection a layer was partially misaligned

Correct me if I sound like a nub but... if only the last move was incorrect, then surely he could still solve it in 7 or 8 moves by just doing a U2 at the start of the solve?

So? It's not a legit state. You can solve the scramble "U" in as many moves as you like, that doesn't make the scramble more legit.

Yes, but if he got the normal scramble he would have done the obvious 3 moves on yellow instead of the abstract 4 move green layer with 2 ways to do it.

can I take this moment to say
CHANGE THE MOVE LIMIT TO 6 FOR SKEWB AND PYRA

I have to agree. You know the scramble limits are too high when you get movecounts below it all the time at home. I believe I have never gotten a 3 move 2x2 scramble, and for those who don't know, I do 2x2 a LOT. Skewb should even be 5 moves.
