[Unofficial] 4.21 3x3 single (Feliks Zemdegs)

Not always... If I would get just a T-perm as an official scramble I can tell you I surely do NOT deserve WR even tough I'm capable getting a WR with that scramble... :/

Mats is definitely fast but Feliks is definitely even faster... Just look at this

Feliks has around 50 (I don't know the exact number) of the fastest 100 solves ever done in comp... It's quite clear to me that he "deserves" the record. (Also that sub-wr corner twist solve just adds to that point...)

1. If you got that as a scramble, everybody else in your group would. It would, to an extent, show the best to the worst still. And this would just not happen. Way too unlikely.

2. Unofficial is separate from official.

3. Just let whatever happens officially happen. When people talk about people "deserving records", they don't realize how much it hurt's the record holder's feelings, even if they know they don't deserve it. I guess I pretty much switched sides. Antonie was right; I know how it feels.

All I'm saying really is just to let official stuff happen and not talk about who "deserves" what based on unofficial stuff.

pls you know the regs better than that

OH MY GOD I AM AN IDIOT. I know that so well. I have red the regulations so many times. I know that delegates aren't allowed to do that. Ignore that part then!

1. In normal finnish competition I go to it wouldn't really matter because no one from Finland currently wouldn't deserve WR. So someone "undeserving" (at least by my standards) would get the record.
And no. Delegate can't discard and choose scrambles like that. Please read the regulations.

2. Obviously true, but I think avg100 (or even bigger avg) is much better implications of someones skill than an avg5 or a single done at home. Someone who is faster by a few seconds than me might get a worse single or avg5 but not a worse avg100 than me. Of course official times are...well official :D And those times need to be the ones to determine the records for obvious reasons. But obviously Feliks is currently the fastest person on earth at speedsolving 3x3 and "deserves" the WR single IMO.

3. Obviously I'll let anything that happens officially happen. I can't control any of that :D. If the record holder is being honest to himself he already knows that someone else is more "deserving" of the record than him. And I don't understand why they should feel bad about it. There is nothing wrong with doing well/being lucky at comp. And I don't know why it would hurt the record holders feelings... Again if he has been honest with himself (which I think we all should be...) he would already know how things are and should not feel offended...

People just tend to like to speculate with this record stuff. Nothing wrong with that IMO :)

EDIT: oh. partly ninja'd on 1. but rest of the post still applies

While the regulations don't technically allow it, the regulations don't intend to address such a case. Basically, the regulations are written with the hope that such a scramble will never surface. In the unlikely case that one such scramble does appear, who knows what will happen. But do you really think any records resulting from such a scramble would be allowed to stand?

*Dene throws a spanner in the works*

On what grounds can/should delegates discard/filter scrambles then? Should F2L-skip be discarded? What about xxx(or xx or x)-cross skip be discarded? What about 1-2 moves away from any of the before mentioned cases?

Also it is good to remember that 2x2 single WR is done with a 4 move scramble. That wasn't discarded either and all the records made with that scramble still stand official...
So to answer your question: Yes I really think records from such scramble would(or at least should) be allowed to stand because all results from a 4-move 2x2 scramble are already official and that's also ridiculous.

well thats just silly seeing as the delegate would weed that scramble out. but, if he didnt, i say that you DO deserve the world record. you do NOT deserve to be called the fastest, but WRs aren't given to the fastest solvers, they are given to the solver with the fastest solve. if you want a system who rewards -or acknowledges, rather- people based purely off of their solving speed, you should start collecting vast amounts data from every solver wishing to participate and start doling out titles accordingly. though such a system would be highly impractical.

Wow. These are the first solves where I couldn't follow the turns. It was too fast.

Try 1080p50, makes it a lot easier to follow (or put on slowmo)

Surely if a stupidly easy scramble such as a T-perm came up in comp the delegate would filter it even though the regulations states it shouldn't happen. If the delegate didn't filter I'd really hope there was some retroactive removal of all solves of that scramble. The regulations were made assuming a scramble like that wouldn't appear in comp

Again. Regulations forbid delegates from choosing what scrambles to use. They have to use whatever is generated by the scrambling program.

And I think I wouldn't deserve WR in any way since anyone who knows T-perm (any speedcuber basically) could get the WR with that scramble... But yeah, it's okay to disagree also :)

Why are you so sure that scramble would be discarded? How could it be discarded?

If it was discarded that would be a blatant and obvious violation of regulations. And if delegates can just overrule regulations just because they happen to think it's a good idea, then why do we even have regulations...

On the point of retroactive removal of the solves:
1. There are still those 2x2 records done with a 4-move scramble that are official... That's IMO also quite ridiculous.
2.What qualifies as a "stupidly easy" scramble that should be removed? What if it's F2L skip or xxx(or xx or x)-cross skip? What if it's only a few moves away from solved? What if that solve Drew just had unofficially would have been official(5-move easy to see xxx-cross. 23 moves for whole solve)? Should that have been allowed or not?

Such a world record would not be approved. If you think different just by following the regulations I feel sorry for you

Because 4-move solution is nothing special on 2x2

Well depends on what you want to define as being "special enough"...

~0.05% of all 2x2 states are 4 move optimal so it's quite a rare event.

And as I said in my previous post: What is "too easy" for 3x3? F2l skip? xxx-cross skip? something else and what else?
