hi, I'm wondering if it is possible to average 15secs with just fridrich f2l + 2 look oll + pll..
i can solve f2l for about 14 to 17sec and last layer 8 to 10sec..i need advice should i complete the oll (i know only 20 algorithms) or practice my f2l more??my aim is average sub 20..thanks :)

my best avgs of 5 are sub 17 and i use f2l and 3 look. ive been cubing since the beginning of may this year. harris chan was averaging sub 15 without knowing all of the OLLs, and mtgjumper on this forum avgs 15-16 very consistently, and only knows about 1/2 or 2/3 of the OLLs.
you could get f2l a lot faster with a bit of practice. alternate between smooth solves and really quickly executed solves. the former will train your lookahead, and the latter will train your execution, both of which are essential for sub 20 :)

Think about this: People can average sub12 with full Fridrich. Add a 2 second on top of that for the second look OLL, then it's sub 14.

wow..cool..i guess i'll focus more on f2l since i don't like memorising algorithms :)..thanks

I average 14 seconds and i don't know all OLL.
wow that's fast!! how did you practice your f2l and ll?

My F2L just came with practice, justt make sure each case is not to long, as in over 8 or 9 moves. My LL is still dodgy :P I need to work on it, i suggest the LL trainer: http://members.chello.nl/~a.ooms4/LL-trainer1.9.zip
my f2l is about 7 moves for each case. It's my look ahead that's really sucks :p

I've gotten a few 18-19s avgs with 2 look OLL, and I know theres much room for improvement besides learning new algs. I wouldnt worry so much about learning new OLLs, just practice what you know. It looks like your f2l and last layer can be improved with some practice, but in the long run, learning the OLL algs sooner wont hurt you.

I think that could help me as well, Because i know all Oll and Pll so if i use 2 look Oll and try to get sub-20 then that will help me out.

but then im afraid ill forget the algs...

i'm at about 21 avg. while knowing just the 7 oll cases where all edges are oriented. i'm far from reaching the breaking point of it, though, as i only sub 2 about 5 or 6 of my plls and i've just finished learning the last 15 or so cases of fridrich f2l.

that being said, after i comfortable with this and i work on some 2 edge pairing for big cubes and m2 for blind, i'm going to learn the 57 olls because it is certainly an advantage worth having.

Francois sechet is sub15 using 1 look but 2 algs OLL. It's a solution if you don't want to learn all OLL cases.

He does edges then corners OLL. When he does edges OLL, he don't have to look again to do his corners OLL. He look once then do 2 alg to solve the case.

I don"t know what is compound OLL :S

I just got my best time (31.26) using f2l, 2 look-oll and full pll, so this is good news for me!

However, my average is still ~50secs.

Nice work, still, comface.

I average ~31 +- 3 seconds, based on how well I perform F2L / PLL (my AUF and recognition are SLOW)... 2-look OLL, 1-look PLL, obviously.
Breakdown:

~18 sec. F2L (incl. cross)
~6 second OLL (both looks)
~7 second PLL (one look)

The odd time I'll break sub-25 single is when either the F2L is sub-15, the PLL is easy like Y, J, T, Z or U, or the OLL can be done in one look and I can already see how it's going to work.

Yeah, my f2l is horrible. I sometimes glance at the clock after my f2l and the clock can be anywhere between 20 and 40 seconds.
