I recently bought some new a stickers for my rubiks cube from cubesmith. I heard good things about the bright colour scheme, and how they helped to see the colours quicker.

They arrived yesterday and since then ive noticed my times have become significantly slower. I am getting 50+ second times when im usually averaging atleast 45 and I havent got a single sub 40 solve when i usually get atleast one in every Avg of 12.

Ive also noticed that as soon as i finish the cross, it takes me a long time to get my first corner edge pair. Mioght this be due to the new stickers.

Do i just need to get used to the new stickers or what?

Yeah, you'll need to get used to the stickers.

I'm used to a bright color scheme (cubesmith) with faces:
U = Blue
D = White
F = Red
B = Orange
L = Green
R = Yellow

This color scheme is similar to others but I've accidentally switched LR or FB. My solve times using store bought cubes with their color schemes is significantly slower because I'm used to recognising different pieces :-/

That is so cool, Tim! You're the first person I've ever seen with the same color scheme as me (except that I don't use bright color stickers). The way I wound up with this weird color scheme is that I had a very old keychain cube that originally had this color scheme, and that's what I first learned Fridrich on. So then when I bought new cubes, I needed to match the color scheme I had learned, so now I have like 20 cubes of various sizes with this color scheme. :)

Oh, and when I solve BLD, I hold the cube in exactly the orientation you described, with blue on top and red in front. Sorry, but I'm just amazed someone else uses the same color scheme as me. :D

Heh, I hold it in that position because the Green face turns especially fast on my cube. I might switch Blue/White (and Red/Orange to keep the scheme) again because my Blue face is squeaking and White turning better.

I'm using the same scheme I had on an old Maestro cube (magic knockoff) but I think I switched two colors in the process :-P

It'd be nice to be able to solve the current Rubik's color scheme well but there's a good chance they'll just change it again. :-P

hi that sounds like a problem when was the last time u lubed ur cube just thought that might be your problem no the stickers

If you just bought new stickers, and it's supposed to help you see colors faster, that's because the stickers are radiant.

Like anything new, you need to get used to it. After a number of solves, you might get faster.

Maybe you miss your old stickers. The emotional distress could be slowing you down. J/k

It's probably just the new feel or something completely unrelated to the stickers. Maybe you neglect to warm up before taking an average. I don't know, I have no idea of how your cubing day runs.

Not to be mean or anything...

but maybe the stickers arent the ONLY problem....

It could just be one of those bad days

You'll get used to them. It took me a few days to adjust to the extremely bright yellow :P Now i love my bright sets :)

FYI: I bought a "Magic Cube" locally a while ago and it appears that I've based my current color scheme off this first cube. I think it's a Famwealth cube but I distinctly remember seeing "Maestro" on it...

A quick Google search on "worlds smoothest turning cube" returned this link whith a picture of it at the bottom of the page. Also at Mefferts.

I wouldn't recommend that cube to anyone. If you drop it, it will break into several pieces (as was evident after my attempt at trying to juggle *one* cube).

Tim.
