Optimized Pochmann
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
The Optimized Pochmann method is a Flip method for solving the Clock. As the name suggests, this method is a variant of Pochmann method (or the "Flip" method) which is a more optimized version of the method. While Pochmann has 14 moves which may include 2 D moves, Optimized Pochmann has 13 moves and at most 1 D move.
Since D moves are considered worse to execute than non D moves (since it requires to turn a bottom dial which is slower than turning upper dials), by removing a D move the method is directly more optimal than standard Pochmann (and also by having 1 less move in general).
Tutorial
To completely remove a D move, the method consists in matching C to U in the back side even before flipping. To do so you have to flip the clock with x2 during inspection, memorize U to C (M1), and flipping back to start solving.
The first move is a simul move. Start by setting only D pins up and execute M1 in an upper dial while simultaneously match C to U by turning a bottom dial with the other hand: D(M1, C to U). After this first move, C will be matching U in both sides so no D moves are required anymore, you can solve the rest just like standard Pochmann: 1- Build front cross, 2- Point it to 12, 3- Flip to build the back cross, 4- Solve corners, 5- Point all to 12).
To maximize optimization, don't set all pins up when pointing the front cross to 12, instead, leave one of the bottom pins down so when you flip with x2, one of the top pins will be aready up so you won't need to pull it up.
Possible pin orders:
- D(simul) UR UL U dr x2 UR UL U dr dl ul ur ALL
- D(simul) UL UR U dl x2 UL UR U dl dr ur ul ALL
Also, during inspection, try to find for a lucky case where U is already matching C in the front side so you can avoid the the bottom dial turn. This way you won't have to do any D move in the entire solve.
