Four Halves
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
Four Halves is a No-Flip method to solve the Clock puzzle. It consists in memorizing one side of the clock and solving it from the other side with no flipping during solve. The memorization in this method follows a simple order similar to Lou where each number solves a cross piece except for the AUF which is done at the final. The name "Four Halves" comes from the pin ordering in execution.
Tutorial
The memo is pretty logical and easy to understand although the AUF might be hard due the calculations:
- M1: D to C
- M2: R to C
- M3: U to C
- M4: L to C
- M5: C - M1 - M2 - M3 - M4
M5 is basically the result of tracing how the center moves throughout the first 4 numbers so you can predict AUF. Its memorization can also be done in some ways that doesn't require to invert the signal of all the other numbers:
- M5: C to (12 + M1 + M2 + M3 + M4) then invert the final +/- signal
- M5: (M1 + M2 + M3 + M4 - C) then invert the final +/- signal
The execution starts by doing flipping the clock with x2 after memorization and following these steps:
- U(C to D, M1)
- R(C to L, M2)
- D(M3, C to U)
- L(M4, C to R)
- all(M5)
- Solve corners like in Flip method
Every solve has 10 moves at most.
Pros
- Simple and logical memorization
Cons
- The calculations in the memo might be hard to do during the 15 seconds inspection
