Progression
Beginnings (2008-2010)
Daniel started cubing in 2008 while studying Mathematics at Oxford University and learned blindfold cubing from Macky's 3OP tutorial just before his first competition, UK Open 2009. Although his first National Record a few months later was in Pyraminx, he quickly realised that his natural ability lay in blindfold solving. In the following months he set many National Records in 4x4x4 blindfolded, 5x5x5 blindfolded and MultiBLD, as well as taking up Clock. 10 months after his first competition he had an official result in all events (single and average), which was a UWR for being the quickest to reach that milestone. At the European Championship 2010 in Budapest, he won a silver medal in Clock. His result of 10/11 (with the last cube an M2 off) also won him a bronze medal in MultiBLD.
World stage (2011-present)
Since 2011, Daniel has been a world-level competitor in 4x4 and 5x5 blindfolded, as well as Fewest Moves and Clock. In July 2011 he set his first World Record in 4x4 blindfolded with a time of 3:26.11 at the Guildford Summer Open. At the World Championship 2011 in Bangkok, he won 4 medals: bronzes in both Multi-BLD (behind Marcell Endrey's WR) and 5x5x5 blindfolded, a tie for silver in Fewest Moves (29 moves), and Gold in Clock with a European Record average of 7.51 seconds in the final.
At the Irish Open in February 2012 he improved his own 4x4x4 Blindfolded World Record with a time of 3:17.41 and also came close in MultiBLD with 19/21, ranking him 4th in the world. At the Rapid Dash Open in April 2012 he broke the 5x5x5 Blindfolded World Record with a time of 7:05.68, although this was beaten 2 weeks later by Marcell Endrey.
