Talk:OLL

From Speedsolving.com Wiki

This page needs some work, but I wanted to get these moved over. I will try getting all the images over here soon. A lot of formatting needs to be done, and some more descripion on it. Let's format it similar to the PLL page. Good work on that qq. We may want to do a double column on this so it isn't so long. -pjk

Re-formatted it a bit, hopefully to people's liking. It is now similar to how the cubewhiz OLL page is organized, with some rearrangements. // JBCM627 17:05, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

I think algs preferred by right handers, or just preferred overall should be bold, or colored. This would help folks (like me) who look at these and just see a mess of algs. I understand I could easily go over to Burton's page and look, but that would defeat the purpose of this wiki being as usefull as possible. I hope signing works the same as normal. Under OLL 25, I made the change from y' R U2' R D R' U2 R D' R2' which was incorrect, to y2... otherwise, the cube was not in the correct orientation when starting the alg. Also added one alg to OLL 25 and a variation of OLL 24 Mitch15 18:38, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

OLL Awkward Category Name

I think calling the Awkward category of the OLL patterns "awkward" is a little ambiguous and doesn't concretely describe the image of the pattern. I've done some research and found that those OLL patterns resemble Gliders from Conway's Game of Life. You can look up information about this life simulator here. Let me know what you think about the name change.

IMHO that shape looks very similar to an R perm (the oriented pieces are the same pieces affected by the R perm), so I think R shape would be a good name. Sbab (talk) 13:20, 21 February 2014 (EST)

Mobile viewing issues

On desktop this page looks great, but on mobile the images are quite small and not ideal. It appears to be an issue with the tables themselves - we probably want to break up the tables into multiple tables so they can then just move down when it gets too narrow, as opposed to remaining the full width of the page and just getting narrower and narrower with the screen as one large table. Can someone assist with this? Also want to check this on the PLL page and others.

Also, that issue aside, we need to update the OLLs on this page with new, better ones. This page has a lot of good ones: http://algdb.net/puzzle/333/oll However, sine the Wiki OLL page here gets so much usage, it would be good to keep it updated. We need to go through and remove awful algs and add new ones as we see fit.

Restore the original OLL images

The new images with such big florian holes are ugly and hard to recognize. Qwr (talk) 21:06, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
