History

The Snow method was inspired by Hawaiian Kociemba method and intended as a beginners method to that method despite actually being an intermediate method using only about 20 more algorithms than CFOP, 5 for BLE and making around about 15 new F2L cases. The name comes from a similar video that the Hawaiian Kociemba method comes from (Coming from an April fools video in 2016 by TheCubical called "Michael Humuhumunukunukuapua’a: International video debut".) The Snow methods name comes from an April fools video in 2018 by TheCubical of the name "Michael Kapiataitokiqaluk: the arrival".

The Snow method is a 3x3x3 method inspired by Hawaiian Kociemba, CFOP (And other variants such as CFCE and ZB) and Roux-CFOP hybrids. Its move count around 55-65 depending on the outcome of the method and is sometimes more useful more faster F2L. It uses close to 100 Algorithms however most of them transfer over from CFOP which is the most common method out there and currently holds the official world record with 3.47 by Yusheng Du.

Explaination

1. Arrow: This is the easiest of all the steps, solve a cross minus one edge.

2. F2L: Solve the first two layers with pairs, the missing edge is there so you can use more tricks to pair up the pieces and insert them.

3. BLE: BLE or Bottom Layer Edge is inserting the edge with one of five algorithms, there might be more in the future, to set up the first three cases make sure the edge is on the same face as where the bottom edge where you are trying to insert the edge into.

BLE 1: If the edge is in the top layer and the bottom layer color is on the front of the cube do one of these two algorithms U M' U' M U' M' U M

BLE 2: If the edge is in the top layer and the bottom layer color is on the top of the cube do this algorithm to insert it M' U2 M

BLE 3: If the edge is in the bottom layer but flipped do this algorithm M' U M U' M' U2 M

BLE 4: If you get a 2x2 square in the top left do this algorithm l' U' l

BLE 5: If you get a 2x2 square in the top right do this algorithm r U r'

4. OLL: Orient Last Layer, same algorithms used for CFOP

5. PLL: Permute Last Layer, same algorithms use for CFOP

Other Possible 4 and 5. CLL and ELL, ZBLS and ZBLL, etc

Pros:

  • Easier than Hawaiian Kociemba
  • Can be faster than CFOP/CFCE

Cons:

  • Luck based (Need some lucky pairing cases)

Trivia:

  • The method was invented around about 2019-2020 time and became the creators main 3x3x3 method, he would later create a post about it in 2021 but ignored by other people. In 2022, another method of his would have a wiki page created about it called the Basket method therefore prompting him to create a page about his main 3x3x3 method.
