Edge Supertwist Method
3x3x3 Edge SuperTwist Method
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
The Edge SuperTwist method, EST is a 3x3 method that solves the cube in permutations. In the basic, Edge Supertwist Method, the solver finishes the cube by first solving the E layer, then permuting the first layer, then the last layer, then orienting all the corners, then finishing by orienting all the edges. This is a uncommon method for newer cubers to discover on their own. In more advanced EST methods, you permute the edges more efficiently by first putting them in one layer, then doing one of 21 permutation algorithims (PLL). Occasional parity may happen.
History
The first detailed description of the method was the one invented by David Ha, who first published his method in the SpeedSolving Wiki in 2020.
Beginner 3x3x3 EST
With this method, the novice cuber truly completes the cube, using intuitive moves (but perhaps also taking over 100 moves to solve). This may be one of the least popular beginners' methods in existence.
- E layer: (intuitive)
- Permute edges on 1 side by doing (AUF+ADF) R2 (Undo AUF-ADF). R2 switches UR to DR
- Permute edges on the other side by doing (Sune)or(T perm)
- Permute corners on 1 side by using commutators (with some sexy moves and some reverse-sexy moves) (also, there's parity. Just do a x rotation and T perm)
- Permute corners from the other side using T perm+y'+R2 U2 R2 U2 (switches URF with URB)
- Fix E layer by doing z rotation+M/U2 moves until it gets solved.
- Orient corners by doing sexy move until corner is oriented, then doing D moves until another corner needs to be oriented. Repeat until all corners are oriented.
- Orient all edges using the edge flipping alg.
- One may run into parity at the end of the solve. If so, the solver may rescramble the cube again and start over
Algs required
T perm: R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F'
Sune: R U R' U R U2 R'
Sexy move: R U R' U'
Reverse-Sexy move: U R U' R'
Edge Flipping alg (flips UF and UB): M' U M' U M' U2 M U M U M U2
