2 holes
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
Introduction
2 Holes is a 3x3 speedsolving method proposed by V Achyuthan in 2021. It relies heavily on block building and intuitiveness. The move count for the beginner version with some experience in block building and Full COLL will be around 49.5 moves. The intermediate version averages around the same movecount but has higher TPS potential than the beginner version if you learn L5EP. The advanced version has around 662 algorithms. 630 For 2 holes CLL, 16 for L5EP, and 16 for RL5EP. It also has the lowest movecount which is 44-46.
Steps
- The first step in the 2 Holes method is a 2x2x2 block built in BL using block building. Since blockbuilding is completely intuitive, it has no algorithms and has a very low movecount (6-7).
- The second step is to solve the F2L CE pairs and insert one of the remaining cross edges. The cross edge can be inserted at the last or while doing the F2L pairs . Since you have two empty cross slots, you can take advantage of those and do many fancy tricks during F2L. This should take around 14-20 moves.
Last steps
Beginner/Intermediate
- The next step is COLL. In this step you solve the top corners in one look. This step takes around 11.5 moves.
- The last step is L5E. This step is usually broken into 2 steps L5EO (Last 5 Edges Orientation) and L5EP (Last 5 Edges Permutation). You can learn algs for these steps or do it intuitively. This step takes around 10-15 moves. There is also RL5EP (Right Last 5 Edges Permutation). In this instead of keeping the unsolved cross slot facing you (AKA in the Front face), if you accidentally ended up with it in right you can do an RL5EP alg. This reduces one rotation.
Advanced
- In the advanced version, The next step is 2 holes CLL. Instead of doing COLL and then L5EO and L5EP, the solver does the COLL and L5EO at the same time. There are 630 algorithms for 2 holes CLL. After this you can finish with L5EP.
Pros
- 2 Holes has a really low movecount.
- Since the first step has a low movecount, multiple steps can be planned in inspection
Cons
- Sometimes look ahead can be hard since Two of the cross pieces are not solved.
