Hey guys -

I set this record back in June and have been meaning to post it. From your knowledge has anybody solved a 5x5x5 deeper?

The entire solve took about 8 minutes at a maximum depth of 27.7 meters. I had my friend scramble my cube put it in my dive jacket. He scrambled it using a random generator that took 100 steps. I never saw the cube until about 5 seconds before the video begins. I have 3 different camera angles to capture the evidence. Also, you can see the depth of one of my fellow divers in the bottom right corner. His dive computer reads about 26 meters because he is hovering above me.

Just looking for confirmation (unofficial, of course) that this is a record.

Thanks!
Andrew

Thanks! I had a few 3x3x3s in my pockets that I was going to solve to break the UWR of 30 meters, but we couldn't find anywhere deep enough :( Oh well, guess I have to do a repeat performance. I might also try the 2x2x2, 4x4x4, and possibly the 7x7x7. Anything larger and I would run out of bottom time :/

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Right now the 3x3x3 record stands at 30 meters...I should work on beating that soon. From my understanding, there has not been a 4x4x4 breath-held solve...yet? Maybe somebody here could set that record.

The old UWR lists at speedcubing.com had both 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 solves done underwater (holding breath). 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 should be possible too.

FWIW, I once did an 8x8x8 computer cube while holding my breath (not underwater, obviously).

Some centers look unsolved. Enough skill and money to pull this all off, but you can't buy+apply proper stickers? :p

Does solving in a submarine count?

How is depth measured? Does solving in a subway or sewerage count, with distance from from ground level as depth? Does solving in valleys below sea level count (*), with distance from sea level as depth?

(*) or some of these places, up to 418 meters below sea level

Woah, how long can you hold your breath?

I only just started 4x4 and average just under 2 minutes... but can hold my breath for well over 2 minutes. Can't be bothered setting a UWR though, anyone who's sub 60/50/40 could EASILY break it without even thinking about it.

What I think would be interesting would be most 3x3s solved with breath held!

I've done 6.. I can't hold my breath much longer than a minute.
